A secluded spot in the forest for a cosy couple’s break. Get back to nature and explore walking and cycling trails along the River Wye and into the Brecon Beacons.

Escape with a loved one to this fantastic cabin for a romantic rural retreat to remember. Fabulously light open-plan living means you don’t have to stretch too far to pop the kettle on in the mornings and the wonderful outdoor space is perfect for al fresco meals as the sun sets. With an acre of land to explore, stay close to home or travel slightly further afield and find yourself in the pretty literary town of Hay-on-Wye (2 miles), or at Llangorse Lake, the largest natural lake in South Wales (13 miles).

Make your way through the doorway and into this cosy cabin-style abode. Light floods in through the large doors and windows, creating a calming, tranquil atmosphere for you to soak up. Plant yourself on the comfortable sofa and laze in front of the TV whilst dinner bubbles away in the bright kitchen space. When evenings are warm, spend time in the garden by the fire pit and admire your lush surroundings. Rest your head in the double bed and drift off to sleep before rising and shining and freshening up in the shower room. Sitting in the owner’s private garden, enjoy your secluded position and stroll the grounds for a morning filled with fresh air before you head off to adventure.

Hop straight onto well-trodden paths and explore your surroundings or make the 5.5-mile journey to the National Trust’s Begwyn Hills. Pop to Hay-on-Wye (2 miles) for a day full of bookshops and eateries. Be sure to visit this bustling town if your trip coincides with the annual literary festival which takes place just before summer.

The cottage (cabin) was spotlessly clean, warm and cosy. The kitchen facilities were excellent. The only downside was that the ""pull out breakfast bar"" was missing. Having to eat breakfast with plates balanced on our knees day on a low sofa was somewhat tricky to say the least. We asked the owner for laptrays or a similar solution. She was extrRead moreemely apologetic and tried her best to assist. Hide

My partner and I had the most wonderful staycation staying in the Forest Nest Cabin. From when we first arrived we had such a lovely warm welcome, the owner was so friendly and informative. The Brecon Beacons is a vast, mountainous and rural region of Wales. Stretching 42 miles from east to west and covering an area of 520 square miles, the Brecon Beacons is dominated by the National Park of the same name. Split into three main areas, the Black Mountain in the west, the Brecon Beacons National Park and Fforest Fawr in the middle, and the Black Mountains in the east; each is a wild, bold and inspiring place to visit on holiday. With 1232 miles of public trails which includes the 95-mile-long Beacons Way, it’s a wayfarer’s delight. One of four Dark Skies Reserves in the UK (and one of 11 in the world), stargazers can delight in the open night sky, to enjoy the darkness in full splendour. The Fforest Fawr is a UNESCO Global Geopark because of its important geology and a need to conserve and protect the area from negative over development.

Stay at a self-catering cottage in the mountains and cascading woodlands or out on the moors; you can also stay in one of the Brecon Beacon’s lovely towns like Hay-on-Wye, Crickhowell, Llangorse or Brecon. Outdoor lovers will enjoy a choice of easy to challenging treks up and around Sugar Loaf Mountain, Carn Pica, Craig Cerrig-Gleisiad, Pen y Fan, or Hatterall Ridge (and many more besides). Take in uniquely Welsh attractions like Dan-yr-Ogof (the National Showcaves Centre for Wales), The Big Pit Mining Museum, Llanthony Priory, Carreg Cennen Castle, Fourteen Locks, and the Brecon Beacons Mountain Railway. Wildlife abounds in the Brecon Beacons, and it’s a great place to spot red kites and discover the successful story of their reintroduction to the UK’s skies at the Red Kite Centre. There’s so much to do for outdoor lovers and extreme sports fans here, so why not book your self-catering holiday in the Brecon Beacons today?

Our holiday cottages across the Brecon Beacons have been carefully selected. From dog-friendly cottages in the countryside to large farmhouses on the mountainsides and everything in between, we have a holiday in the Brecon Beacons to suit you.
