In the pretty hamlet of Painscastle, this luxurious Grade II-listed property sleeps 16 guests, making it the perfect rural retreat for large get-togethers with friends and family. The detached property has ample social areas, including a cosy lounge with an open fire, snug, and formal dining room. In the evening, toast marshmallows around the firepit, before sinking into your private hot tub. Enjoy excursions to the literary haven of Hay-on-Wye (5.5 miles) or the bustling market town of Brecon (20 miles). The Georgian property is situated on a working farm and is bursting with period features. Great care has been taken with the decor, with elegant furniture and plush soft furnishings complementing the property’s style. The large lounge, with high ceilings and an open fire, is a fabulous space to come together to chat about your day or watch a film on the Smart TV. Alternatively, curl up in front of the wood burner in the snug with your favourite book. Down a couple of steps, is a stylish kitchen, with everything you need to rustle up a tasty meal. Due to the nature of the property, some of the bedrooms have restricted head height. From Painscastle, stroll to The Roundabout, where you can enjoy spectacular views across the whole of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Journey into the quirky town of Hay-on-Wye to potter around the cute bookshops and antique stores. From here, you can hire canoes and paddleboards to explore the beautiful River Wye. The Brecon Beacons is a vast, mountainous and rural region of Wales. Stretching 42 miles from east to west and covering an area of 520 square miles, the Brecon Beacons is dominated by the National Park of the same name. Split into three main areas, the Black Mountain in the west, the Brecon Beacons National Park and Fforest Fawr in the middle, and the Black Mountains in the east; each is a wild, bold and inspiring place to visit on holiday. With 1232 miles of public trails which includes the 95-mile-long Beacons Way, it’s a wayfarer’s delight. One of four Dark Skies Reserves in the UK (and one of 11 in the world), stargazers can delight in the open night sky, to enjoy the darkness in full splendour. The Fforest Fawr is a UNESCO Global Geopark because of its important geology and a need to conserve and protect the area from negative over development.

Stay at a self-catering cottage in the mountains and cascading woodlands or out on the moors; you can also stay in one of the Brecon Beacon’s lovely towns like Hay-on-Wye, Crickhowell, Llangorse or Brecon. Outdoor lovers will enjoy a choice of easy to challenging treks up and around Sugar Loaf Mountain, Carn Pica, Craig Cerrig-Gleisiad, Pen y Fan, or Hatterall Ridge (and many more besides). Take in uniquely Welsh attractions like Dan-yr-Ogof (the National Showcaves Centre for Wales), The Big Pit Mining Museum, Llanthony Priory, Carreg Cennen Castle, Fourteen Locks, and the Brecon Beacons Mountain Railway. Wildlife abounds in the Brecon Beacons, and it’s a great place to spot red kites and discover the successful story of their reintroduction to the UK’s skies at the Red Kite Centre. There’s so much to do for outdoor lovers and extreme sports fans here, so why not book your self-catering holiday in the Brecon Beacons today?

Our holiday cottages across the Brecon Beacons have been carefully selected. From dog-friendly cottages in the countryside to large farmhouses on the mountainsides and everything in between, we have a holiday in the Brecon Beacons to suit you.
