Dros yr Afon (Over the River) is an elegant and contemporary cottage, certainly with the WOW factor, it's set above the River Walk; as its name suggests, "over" the Usk. Its flower-filled balcony has views in one direction to the Beacons and in the other to the ancient Usk Bridge. Lucky visitors can catch a glimpse of the resident otters that live on the river. The birdlife is wonderful - kingfishers, herons, dippers, ducks and gulls galore.

Gaze over the river and directly opposite is Christ College, the picturesque school founded by Henry V111 in 1541. Dros yr Afon is an excellent place to stay for a weekend if visiting children at the college or wanting to help them settle in.

Sleeps 4 in two bedrooms and a spacious bathroom and two toilets.

Living Room: On entering the cottage, you go up a few wide steps into a spacious living area with a beautiful oak floor, dining table and comfortable sofa and chairs. You will be greeted with a home-baked welcome treat.

On the walls there are very striking contemporary paintings.

The kitchen has an electric oven and a gas hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge and freezer and there is a second 'wine and beer' fridge. There are also USB points and free Wi Fi.

Bi-fold doors lead to the South-facing balcony, which has a remote-controlled awning for sunny days and is furnished with table and chairs for four.

Cloakroom: On this floor there is a cloakroom with hand basin and loo.

Downstairs, to a hall/ study area with small desk and USB points.

The three main rooms here, 2 bedrooms and bathroom, were once stables.

Master Bedroom: with a king-size bed with built-in drawers and wardrobe.

Bedroom 2: has a king-size bed.

Bathroom:there is a spacious bathroom with a bath, walk-in shower, hand basin and toilet.

Utility room: with a washer/tumble dryer.

The roof is covered in photo - voltaic panels which provide all the electricity for the house in the daytime - so please use dishwasher and washing machine then if possible.

The cottage is only a few minute's walk to  the centre of Brecon town, with its restaurants, pubs and attractive shops, Theatr Brycheiniog, the Coliseum Cinema, and 'Y Gaer' - the new art gallery, museum, library and cafe, soon to open.

Beautiful riverside walks are also immediately accessible; it takes only a minute or two to walk out of the cottage door and down to the river. There you can choose from a very pleasant walk along the Promenade, then on to the Weir and the children's playground, where you can hire canoes. In the other direction you reach the Canal Basin where the day boats are moored and then walk on to the extensive playing fields.

Dros Yr Avon is owned by the same people who for more than 20 years have welcomed visitors to Old Crofftau Now they are pleased to offer this river holiday cottage as well as their much-loved mountain home for visitors to enjoy.

A friendly cathedral town in the lee of the mountains with the rivers Usk and Honddu running through. For a small town, there's a lot going on. A leisure centre with a pool, 1930s style cinema, excellent theatre and plenty of shops and cafes. On the outskirts of the town are popular villages including Llangorse with it famous lake, Cantref with its popular adventure farm, Talybont, well known as a walking and cycling hub and Felin Fach, home of The Griffin, a highly acclaimed pub and restaurant.
