Property code: OC-BN027

Perched on the brink of the Brecon Beacons and deep in the Welsh countryside, this charming property is the ideal base for exploring the Wales and England border. Visit nearby Hay-on-Wye (2 miles) to discover welcoming family pubs and its generous selection of bookshops or plan a visit to coincide with its annual literary festival. Take a trip to the River Wye (2 miles) for river walks or canoeing, or simply set off on enjoyable hikes from your very doorstep.

A beautiful white-washed stone cottage surrounded by trees and flora awaits your arrival. Stepping inside, the open-plan sitting room has ancient beams on the ceiling and a welcoming wood burner in its original deep-set fireplace. The kitchen is well-equipped with an electric oven, hob, microwave, fridge and a freezer for feeding your family, along with a dishwasher for stacking the plates afterwards. Completing the kitchen is a handy washing machine in case you’ve been caught in the rain. Meals can be enjoyed right here in the kitchen, with a dining table by the window boasting far-reaching views of the mountains on the other side of the valley. After dinner, retire to the comfortable sitting room. Throw a log on the wood burner and settle into sofas and armchairs, switching on the TV or enjoy a good film using the DVD player. Traditional wooden stairs lead up to the first floor where you’ll find three cosy bedrooms with sloping ceilings. Nestled under the eaves of the property is a handsome double bedroom, which has a low beam to one side of the bed. Continue into small but charming single bedroom through the master room, where floral soft furnishings ensure a truly rural decor. Another single bedroom completes the sleeping space on this floor, with a pretty window offering views of the garden. Finally, you’ll find a spacious family bathroom with shower over bath and a WC in an adjacent room.

Head out into the garden up some steps and soak up the delights of your surroundings. A small stream flows through the outdoor space, and mature trees and shrubs offer shelter on hotter days. The table on the back terrace is perfect for warm weather meals outside. The large sloping garden is backed by a vast forest, perfect for setting off on walks from your doorstep. A gap in the hedge offers amazing far-reaching views over the surrounding countryside.

Lovely quiet location and a very cosy comfy cottage. The lane down to the property is narrow but it's a great location

Such a lovely cottage and so peaceful. Great views to the Black Mountains and not far to the buzz of Hay-on-Wye. Lovely area, great shops and markets. Canoe trip on Wye high recommended.

This cottage is lovely, with a secluded garden & set peacefully up on the hillside away from traffic. We enjoyed sitting on the respective garden terraces at the end of days visiting various sites. Thank you to the owner very much.

Beautiful cottage tucked away in the woods. A peaceful and comfortable escape from everything, but with good facilities nearby. Perfect. We didn't want to leave.

This is an exceptional cottage: full of character but faultlessly equipped and much less stark than most dog-friendly holiday lets.
