  • Ideal for those looking to explore on foot with endless walks on the doorstep so you won’t even need the car
  • A super base for trying out some of the activities on offer locally, including cycling, mountain biking and canoeing
Property code: OC-BN245

Nestled in a serene setting with a picturesque mountain stream flowing through its cottage garden, this charming two-bedroom property is a paradise for walking enthusiasts, offering miles of uninterrupted trails right from the doorstep. For cyclists, the nearby Taff Trail and the Henry Vaughan walk along the old Brynoyre railway track provide scenic routes through the valley. Just a mile away lies the quaint village of Talybont-on-Usk, where you can explore a canal, two rivers, a reservoir, woods and waterfalls. The village also features a general store with Post Office and café. There are two welcoming pubs serving food.

The entrance porch leads into a country-style kitchen, complete with an antique pine dresser, a dining table, and chairs. This well-equipped kitchen includes an electric double oven, microwave, and an American-style fridge freezer, perfect for preparing anything from quick snacks to formal meals. The conservatory offers a delightful spot to relax and enjoy the garden's abundant wildlife, with various birds and animals frequently visiting. The cozy sitting room, full of character with its exposed brickwork and beams, is an inviting space to unwind on comfortable sofas by the warmth of a wood burner. The bathroom on this level includes a bath, hand-held shower, and WC. From the kitchen, steep, traditional stone stairs wind up around the back of the fireplace to the first floor, where you'll find two spacious double bedrooms, each with an additional single bed. The second bedroom is accessed via another steep stone spiral staircase from the living room.

Step outside into the garden to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the surroundings. Enjoy a meal or drinks al fresco with the garden furniture and BBQ. The property includes a designated parking space for one car, with additional parking available nearby.

Please note that due to the unguarded stream running though the garden all children will require adult supervision at all times.

  • RIVER ACCESS: Not suitable for young children due to the open access to the river running through the garden. All children must be supervised at all times. • The far side of the river bank and the main section of the river closest to the cottage garden belongs to the neighbour so is out of bounds to guests - further details are within the guest directory at the cottage

These bees are protected and are usually mild mannered going about their business if left undisturbed. As they are high up in the chimney they generally do not cause any issues when enjoying the outdoor spaces and have not been problematic in past years but alerting guests who may have a potential for bee sting allergies.

This is a beautiful location, we loved our stay & will be back. Loads of walks accessible directly from the cottage, effectively 3 living spaces which was fantastic for 4 adults. Instructions to property clear & house clean. Things we would like to have known before we stayed: no wifi or phone service (we weren't aware before arrival - its a blessiRead moreng and a curse!), we would bring own towels (provided ones are small), own kitchen knives (provided are blunt) & pub/shop about 30 min walk. This is a dream location for a more traditional Welsh cottage experience, with the stream just outside the viewing window! Lots of comfortable space, and we enjoyed the wood burning stove each night.

Old mill cottage is in a wonderful location in the Brecon Beacons. The cottage is very cosy and comfortable; we particularly enjoyed sitting in the "conservatory" looking out into the garden in the evenings. The stairs in Old Mill proved too difficult for my wife. We arranged sleeping accommodation for her at The White Hart in nearby Talybont on Usk. The remoteness of the cottage meant the absence of a washing machine caused us to make a number of road trips for laundry reasons.
