With some of Europe's most interesting and challenging cave networks on your doorstep, Sycamore Barn is perfect for the more adventurous guest. With countless walking and cycling trails nearby and a location deep inside the International Dark Sky Reserve, the options are plenty for active days and evenings spent staring up into the sky. On more relaxing days why not explore the picturesque town of Crickhowell for its excellent local produce, pubs and restaurants. For a traditional family day out there are many attractions you will want to visit including: The Big Pit National Coal Museum, Blaenavon Iron Works, Abergavenny Castle and museum and Brecon Cathedral.

The building is perfectly situated, with a garden that is private and enjoys a vista encompassing over 200 square kilometres of the national park, across the beautiful Usk valley to the Black Mountains and beyond. Indoors, the barn has been furnished with natural materials and fabrics that complement the thick stone walls and oak lintels to create a cosy retreat with an atmosphere of tranquillity and natural peace. Enter the barn via a well-equipped galley kitchen with electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. There is a shower room just off the kitchen. A couple of steps up from the kitchen is a modern open plan living area with a glass fronted log burner, and spiral stair access to the bedrooms. Furnished with comfortable sofas and finished thoughtfully with colourful cushions and throws, you will find the perfect setting for a cosy night in with a good movie, and space for enjoying a hearty supper after a day’s exploring the National Park. Climb the spiral staircase to the first floor where you will find a twin room with en-suite shower room. A further climb to the second floor where you will find an inviting king-size bedroom within the eaves enjoying stunning views from the skylights. The telescope will aid in your viewing of this Dark Sky area.

There is a generous stone patio from which to enjoy the views, with heavy oak garden furniture under an oak framed  shelter and a BBQ. When the sun goes down you can stretch the evening out around the fire pit, the only sounds being the crackle of the fire and the calling of lambs in the fields in the springtime. There is also a huge area of open access behind the barn which has opportunities for cycling and horse riding, as well as much to interest the amateur naturalist.

  • 2 bedrooms – 1 king-size, 1 twin (both accessed via a spiral staircase)
  • 2 bathrooms – 1 shower room with WC, and 1 en-suite shower room with WC
  • Electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine

We had an absolutely amazing stay here. We were a family of 4, and our boys aged 8 and 10 loved it as much as we did. So much to do within short drives from the property. We did a couple of walks straight from the property too which were fantastic. We thoroughly enjoyed the birds in the garden and the sheep in the nearby fields.

Amazing location and wonderful holiday cottage, very cosy, well equipped and stunningly beautiful inside and out. Lots of things to do in the area, fantastic walks right from the door. Our daughter loved the rams in the field next door. We have already said we must rebook!

My son & I really loved this property. Views to die for. Well laid out house. Comfotable beds, showers great etc.Everything you need. I think next time I'd bring a firestick as no smart TV and we wanted to watch films in the evenings. Can imagine it's even more stunning in the summer. Would definitely book again.

Well equipped small, quirky, cosy cottage surrounded by wildlife with views of hills and sheep in the next field. The layout of the cottage maximises the available space although note that the creaky spiral staircase can be a challenge if you need to get up in the night, especially if you are tall, and if you don't want to disturb those in the twinRead more bedroom who have the ensuite, the downstairs WC is the furthest room away. We took our adult daughter and all had a most enjoyable stay. Thank you. Hide

This is a nice house in a very picturesque location. There are lots of things to do nearby, not just the obvious walking/outside things. The outside of the property needed a bit of a tidy.

Lots of charm and beautiful views. Remote and difficult to access. Note that the bathroom available for the primary bedroom is 2 storeys away, down a somewhat treacherous spiral stair. The king size bed is European size. There is a washer but no dryer.
