Set in the picturesque village of Trefil – Wales’ highest village – this cosy cottage began life as an inn known as The Kings Arms, serving quarrymen and tram road workers. Lying on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park, it offers walking, hiking and mountain biking from the doorstep, including routes to the Chartist’s Cave (5 miles): explore moorland, caves, cairns, a waterfall, and scenic vistas. Brecon Beacons National Park is just 1 mile north, perfect for expansive drives or hikes. Tefil is well known as a filming location; the dramatic scenery has featured in Doctor Who, His Dark Materials, Wrath of the Titans, and more. Visit the valleys of Gwaun Cerrig Llwydion (10 miles) or discover Caerfanell Waterfalls (approx. 8.5 miles). Explore the nearby towns of Merthyr Tydfil (8.5 miles) and Abergavenny (14 miles) or learn about the area’s rich industrial heritage at Big Pit National Coal Museum (10 miles).

Leave coats and shoes in the hallway before stepping into the kitchen, a bright, practical space with lovely garden views in sight as you cook or tidy up. Beside it, the dining room exudes historic character with its exposed stone walls and a wood burner for additional warmth and a cosy atmosphere during winter stays. A spacious shower shower is also located on this floor. Take a step up to reach the lounge, a lovely space featuring a plush L-shaped sofa that is perfect for unwinding after action-packed days. A Smart TV offers evening entertainment. Steep cottage stairs lead up to two bedrooms – a double and a twin. Both rooms are inviting, and promise restful nights.

Embrace the beautiful scenery surrounding the property from the garden, which is visited by lots of birds, making it a haven for wildlife lovers. With its grassy lawn, outdoor seating and charming summer house, this is where you’ll want to spend sunny afternoons and warm evenings. The summer house features a balcony overlooking the surrounding fields and the river. On-street parking is available nearby, subject to availability, and is accessed via steps or a slope.
