Property code: OC-BOW197

A quintessential stone and dark wood lodge that sleeps seven in spacious luxury near the banks of the River Wye one mile up a private drive on the Rhosferig Estate. There’s plenty to do right here including red kite spotting, but to stock up or simply venture further afield, the attractive market town of Builth Wells is 2 miles away – it even has a cinema! The Wye Valley Walk is right on your doorstep and the Elan Valley Lakes are also worth a visit. While you can’t fish from the lodge itself, day tickets may be available to nearby private beats if angling’s your thing.

The apparently simple rustic exterior of this lodge belies its seriously impressive interiors – it’s a family-friendly holiday property sleeping seven on a private estate in rural isolation. The downstairs living room has a glorious, vaulted wood ceiling with beams, impressive stone inglenook which now houses a wood burner, and offers plentiful comfortable seating, masses of space and hunting paraphernalia. From here, double doors lead to the window-lined snooker room, with the same stunning River Wye views as the lounge. If you need to work or check in (or just have a read and a nap!), there’s a charming study downstairs or you could set up in the expansive kitchen/diner with its cosy Aga, sleek modern kitchen for easy cooking with a table at one end. One king-size and one twin bedroom are also to be found down here; both have wonderfully calming, neutral decor and share a shower room with WC. Upstairs is another single bedroom with a quaint sloping ceiling plus the standout master king-size bedroom complete with doors opening onto its very own balcony space and high wood-lined ceilings and painted beams. You can lie in bed and gaze out over the river and countryside beyond. Holiday heaven!

The lodge is surround by a paved veranda, with furniture for both relaxing and dining just outside the front. There’s also a well-tended, enclosed garden largely set to grass with a built-in charcoal BBQ and fire pit area.

We are a family of 5 adults and our dog stayed at this beautiful lodge with a wonderful outlook over the river. Plenty of red kites were spotted in the mornings having breakfast under the canopy. The birdsong and gentle mooing of the nearby cows were the only sounds we could hear. Being away from the traffic was bliss. The lodge had everything we nRead moreeeded. Good quality bedding and soft towels. Several hours were spent around the pool table after a busy day of sight seeing and an enjoyable break was had by all. Hide

It was just perfect - house, location, condition, all! Oh no, one thing: the internet is more than poor up there. It was a matter of chance to be connected.

The router and internet connection need sorting out, a few other small issues to do with some of the kitchen kit, but dealt with by the extremely capable housekeeper, Jo. Jo was simply brilliant and nothing was too much trouble. We are already deciding what dates to return.

Fantastic location, beautiful cosy property, fantastic kitchen supplies, views and bathroom facilities. The only issue our children had was the low level of Wi-Fi (but that didnt bother us, it was nice to be a little off grid for a week!)

Both bathrooms have been refurbished since the photos on the website were taken, there is now a large walk in shower in the downstairs bathroom and a large bath upstairs. Excellent improvements.

The property was essentially perfect in every way. Location, peace and quiet, quality, facilities all outstanding. The view from the property was worth every penny if the cost. Only small gripe: We had a few equipment pieces missing, eg a whisk, the kettle was only big enough for 2 cups of tea (7 of us in the property!), no bin bags, no linen bagsRead more as per the departure procedures, snooker table had cues but most had no tips, no fans (very hot week!), WiFi was poor (not that I was bother but my teenagers were upset they couldnt watch Netflix!). Have used many other cottage companies before but on this experience will consider Original Cottages for our next bookings. Wish could have stayed in this one forever :-) Hide
