Set halfway up the cobbled steps by Brecon’s cathedral, this adorable cottage is just 500m from the shops, sites and places to eat of this vibrant Welsh town. Perfect for couples and small families, it’s a lovely year-round getaway, with a wood burner for cosy winter evenings and a courtyard for summertime relaxing.
The three-storey cottage is Grade II-listed and only accessible by foot, across a small bridge from the steps to the front door. On this floor is a comfortable lounge, kept extra warm in winter by a wood burner in a huge stone fireplace, and with a Smart TV for nights in with a favourite movie. The bright and spacious family bathroom boasts a free-standing bath and separate shower. Head down to the lower-ground floor and you’ll find a pretty kitchen/diner, equipped with everything you’ll need for delicious holiday suppers, including a fabulous Everhot electric stove. The two lovely bedrooms, a double and a twin, are both on the top floor, and enjoy views over the cobbled walkway. For some fresh air, open the door in the kitchen onto the small courtyard, which is open aspect to the cobbled steps, with furniture for al fresco dining and a covered area for storing bikes.
In the Georgian market town of Brecon there are plenty of lovely shops and great places to eat, as well as a cathedral, a castle and the remains of the town’s medieval walls.
