The perfect bolthole for a romantic retreat, sneak away for a holiday in the wonderful Welsh countryside and make yourselves at home. Full of characterful features including exposed beams and brickwork, curl up by the wood burner and relax in style. Sitting in the owner’s 300-acre farm, the Nant Menascin River flows through the land so you can walk outside and follow its twists and turns or jump in for a spot of wild swimming.

Step up and into the property which is attached to the owner’s home yet has a secluded feel and plenty of privacy. If it’s been a long journey, get the wood burner roaring right away so you can snuggle up and unwind. A well-stocked bookcase offers a range of tales, and the Sky TV also promises to keep you entertained in the evenings. Polished wooden floors, exposed beams and exposed brickwork are complemented by colourful rugs and an array of artwork which adorn the walls. Cook up a storm in the light kitchen before dining at the table and eventually heading to bed. Up steep stairs, the bedroom boasts fantastic views across the Black Mountains and has a charming, sloped ceiling. Wake up and head back downstairs to freshen up for the day in the shower room. Enjoy an al fresco breakfast on the private patio, reached by descending a step through beautiful oak doors.

With your four-legged friend welcome too, head out for local walks and explore without having to jump in the car. Follow the river which flows through the farm where you can make a splash, or roam the bluebell woodlands and the Site of Special Scientific Interest nearby. The Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal is found 2 miles away, while 8 miles away sits Pen-y-Fan, the highest peak in South Wales.

An absolutely delightful cottage in Brecon. The view is lovely and very calming. The cottage is very comfortable to stay in, the bed is nice and comfortable sofas too. The log fire is a massive plus and warms up the bedroom for when you go to sleep. An all around lovely stay.

Great location with walks directly from the cottage. Road was single track for last mile or so but not an issue meeting other vehicles. Friendly owner advised on local walking routes.

The Old Toolshed was a delightful base from which to explore the beautiful area. It was easy to relax in - and the wood burning stove kept us warm on cool evenings. We were made to feel extremely welcome and very much enjoyed the quiet environment and picturesque views.

A smashing break and good value for money. Thomas and Hannah were very welcoming. We knew the stairs was an issue before booking and we could not find the DVD player - but what a lovely cottage. What a view.
