Delightful, secluded cottage, providing a perfect base for small families or couples looking to explore the mid Wales countryside, with long walks and cycle routes on the doorstep.

Explore mile-upon-mile of sublime countryside from this remote cottage in the heart of Wales. This rural hideaway is one of two converted barns on a working farm, suitable for up to three people and two canine companions. Surrounded by lush green valleys and historic towns, it’s a fantastic base for exploring the area on foot, by paw or on two wheels. And with no Wi-Fi to distract you, you’ll be able to truly switch off here.

The cottage is a welcome sight after you return from exciting days out. Throw off dirty boots and wipe down muddy paws in the shared laundry room before preparing a quick snack in the cottage-style kitchen. It has everything you need to whip up tasty meals and nibbles made with local Welsh produce. On a warm evening, it’s nice to dine alfresco on the patio as you take in the wonderful views across the valley. From the kitchen, take a couple of steps up to the lounge, where you can unwind with a film or magazine. A couple more steps lead up to the two bedrooms – a double and a single. You’ll be out like a light with all that fresh Welsh air and good food.

The charming market town of Builth Wells is 10 miles from the property. It has some lovely shops and places to eat, as well as delightful walks along the River Wye. Wildlife enthusiasts can watch red kites feeding at Gigrin Farm (12.5 miles), while the Elan Valley (14 miles) is a must-see, with its many dams, reservoirs and abundance of wildlife. It’s also great for stargazing as it has some of the clearest night skies in the UK.

A spacious, clean and comfortable cottage, with everything you need. Set in a stunning location, especially if you like peace and great views. But equally great for exploring beautiful Wales.

Cosy comfortable warm cottage, clean and tidy. Made very welcome - with flowers and a home made cake, a pint of milk in the fridge and tea and coffee - enable us to settle down with a mug of tea after a long journey before un packing the car as it was pouring down on arrival. Well appointed and comfy cottage in a quiet rural spot. Good walks for dogs. Garage was useful, particularly if you have to unload/load car in the rain. Ideal position for day trips.

We had a wonderful family holiday at Mawr Cottage. The location is beautiful, quiet, perfect for getting away from the daily hustle and bustle, including a break from the digital world as there is no phone or wifi signal. There are great walks and places to cycle nearby. We enjoyed visiting the Elan valley, Gilfach nature reserve and the towns of BRead moreuilth Wells and Llandrindod Wells. Both towns had good parks for our six year old son and places to walk our dog. We'll definitely be returning. Hide
