Surrounded by mountain peaks, epic walks and cosy country pubs, this romantic hideaway in the Brecon Beacons National Park is a scenic pleasure whatever time of year you visit. It’s perfect for a couple to enjoy outdoor adventures, breakfast on the balcony or simply curl up by the fire.
Spread across the top floor of Cantref House, this spacious charming self-contained apartment has its own entrance and is accessed up 26 outdoor metal steps making this unsuitable for children, infants and those with mobility issues. The lounge has a unique style, with bold flourishes and a standout feature wall. With two sofas, you can each have one to yourself – that’s if you’re not snuggling up together by the electric wood burner effect fire. On warm evenings, dine under the stars on the balcony. As the Brecon Beacons is a Dark Sky Reserve, it’s one of the best places in Britain for stargazing, and you can make full use of the telescope to observe the dramatic night skies. Wake up to wonderful views from the stylish double king-size bedoom and kickstart your day with a freshly made brew from the coffee machine. You’re also welcome to use the front lawn to soak up some sun.
The property is 5 miles from the cathedral town of Brecon, where you can go for a leisurely stroll along the canal towpath or enjoy a night out at the theatre. In Hay-on-Wye (18 miles), spend the day rummaging through book shops and antique stores. You’ll have loads of opportunities to get active, with numerous trails for walking, cycling and horse riding throughout the Brecon Beacons. South Wales’ highest peak, Pen y Fan, is 6 miles away if you’re up for the challenge of hiking to the top. Or you can have a go at paddleboarding and kayaking on Llangorse Lake.
