With a private waterfall and sprawling outdoor space, this peaceful cottage for up to eight guests and two dogs is a delightful hideaway for an outdoor-loving family or group of friends. Set in a secluded spot in the Black Mountains, but just 5 miles from Hay-on-Wye, it’s ripe for exploring, with gorgeous trails on your doorstep. When you’re not out roaming this divine landscape, a dip in the private hot tub and games of pool and table tennis should keep everyone relaxed.

The cottage has a homely interior full of rich hues and retains bags of character, with cruck oak beams and exposed stonework a feature of many rooms. Log burners in both living rooms and underfloor heating in the main living areas ensure chilly evenings turn into cosy nights. Rustle up a feast fit for a king in the AGA cooker in the country kitchen, and celebrate in style in the dining area. If it’s a warm day, light the barbecue and dine alfresco on the patio. An array of games will give you hours of after-dinner fun as you compete with family or friends.

There are three bedrooms to choose from, one with an adjoining bathroom with a roll-top bath to soak in after long walks in the countryside. Two of the bedrooms have a single bed as well as super king-size zip and link so will sleep 8 in total.

If you’re looking for adventure, the Brecon Beacons National Park has it in spades. Try rock climbing, mountain biking, gorge walking, rafting, archery or caving. The Tregoyd Mountain Riders centre is also just at the foot of the mountain lane leading from the property, with wonderful trails across the hills to explore on horseback. Alternatively, you can saunter around Hay-on-Wye, with its many charming second-hand bookshops, antique stores and cafes.

  • 4 dogs allowed. Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week
  • There is an Accidental Damage Deposit of £300 when booking at this property, however this may be waived for £40. We’ll provide more details about this when booking your holiday.

Amazing house and location, facilities great, lots of things to do without even leaving the house. Children and dogs can run wild in the huge garden and grounds. Feels very remote but you are only a 15 minute or so drive from Hay on Wye. Highly recommended for a unique and beautiful stay.

Lovely Cottage up a long single track lane. Beautiful views all around and lovely walks on the Brecon beacons straight from the door. Convenient for the Hay Festival. Drive to the cottage not for the faint hearted and might be unpleasant in very wet or icy weather

The house is so comfortable, spacious and beautifully decorated. It's in the most perfect location for incredible walks straight out of the house. We loved our time there and will be back!

Very simply we could not wish for more. Excellent value for money. A real heaven from modern life. Spacious but cosy. We did not use the cars the whole time. We will be back!

Very remote up a narrow country lane, a real home from home comfy cottage. Surrounded by grazing sheep, an array of birdsong, and other wildlife. Beautiful walks from the door (can easily walk up Lord Hereford's knob and back in 3hours including rest breaks) 15mins drive into Hay on Wye, half an hour drive to Brecon and about 45mins to Hereford. This is a stunning period house in a beautiful, wild location. We particularly liked the garden and brook running through it, which is well enclosed so no worry of your dog escaping. Hay bluff house is a lovely large welcoming house, we go annually as a family and enjoy it more each year! The hot tub under the stars is great, the enclosed garden is fabulous and good for the two dogs. The kitchen area is spacious and we enjoy cooking there together. There are lovely walks on your doorstep the views are breathtaking. Beautiful location, but be warned of 2 mile single track road to get there. Lots of great facilities on site, everything you need, be aware table tennis and extra logs are in the out house.
