Cefn Barn

The barn is set in a unique and secluded location, at the foot of the Black Mountains.  Nestling at the end of a 500m private track, it has a dramatic 240 degree view from the Black Mountains to the Brecon Beacons.  The stunning glass doors to both sides open onto the lawned garden and the enormous panorama of the Wye valley, wooden furniture on the flagstone terrace makes this a perfect spot for star gazing.   There is woodland around the barn which is perfect for exploring and a small stream runs below for paddling.  The dramatic waterfalls at  Pwll-y-Wrach are nearby.  The hamlet of Llanelieu has a medieval church with 14th Century rood screen and painted loft and the old village stocks remain outside.  It is also the home of Black Mountain Pottery.

Barn Accommodation

Sleeps 2/4, 2 double bedrooms.  Cefn Barn is a contemporary, luxury barn conversion by award-winning architect Anthony Hudson.  With ceilings open to the rafters and a galleried walkway, this is a fabulous and spacious design.  Glazed doors open to both sides of the barn, offering stunning views of the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons.  The open-plan, slate-floor sitting room has an L shaped sofa, flat screen TV with FreeSat channels, DVD player and selection of DVDs.  There are ipod speakers and Wi-Fi.  The barn is heated with an efficient woodburning stove and gas underfloor heating.  The kitchen has two double ovens, a five ring gas hob, microwave, large fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine/tumble drier. The kitchen is well- equipped for cooking and serving and there are cook books for inspiration.  There is dining table and six chairs.
 
Three steps lead up to a wet room with toilet, sink and shower.

Both bedrooms have bedside tables, lamps, a chest of drawers, mirror and hanging space.  Across the galleried walkway is a second bathroom, with bath, toilet, sink and heated towel rail.  Next to it is a peaceful mezzanine space, with a desk and bookcase.  Some games, books and magazines are provided.

  • This property is not considered suitable for clambering young children due to the galleried landing. A cot and high chair can be provided on request.  Please supply your own cot linen.
  • No pets allowed. 
  • Mobile reception is reasonably good, but better just outside the barn. There is a landline for emergency use. 
  • There is parking for 3 cars. 
  • The track to the cottage is quite bumpy and in winter visitors with low cars should take advice.

     

  • Everything within easy reach

    The barn is in walking distance of Y Das Mountain and the footpaths of Rhos Fawr Common, with its wild ponies, sheep and Red Kites. The nearest village, Talgarth, is 2 miles away and was recently featured on BBC TV 'Village SOS'.  There is an excellent butcher, late-opening Co-op supermarket and Talgarth Mill produces artisan bread daily, also with pubs to visit.   There are facilities for ponytrekking, canoeing, sailing, climbing and mountain-biking locally.  The area is rich with gastro-pubs, restaurants and bookshops.  The spectacular Brecon Beacons are only 30minutes drive.  Cefn Barn is located between the vibrant market town of Hay-on-Wye 9 miles and the charm of Brecon, 8 miles.  The boutique town of Crickhowell is about 10 miles away and Abergavenny, with its Food Festival, Castle and train station, is 20 miles.

    Have really enjoyed our stay here. So much so we don't want to go home and are considering a move to Wales.Barn is lovely, really well done - especially love the log burner and cosying up on the corner sofa. Beautifully restored. Lovely views.
