We think the little Spa town of Builth Wells is something of a hidden gem and a great place from which to explore beautiful Mid Wales.
Nestled between the Eppynt mountains and the stunning, Elan valley, Builth Wells boasts unrivalled access to some of the most glorious and unspoilt countryside in the UK, making it a popular destination for walkers, cyclists and wildlife enthusiasts, and for those simply wanting to get away from it all.
In this part of the world outdoor activities are in abundance. You can choose from mountain biking, horse riding, kayaking, climbing and hiking - all on offer within easy reach of Builth. The town also has a challenging 18-hole golf course and access to both the Irfon and Wye rivers for world-class trout and salmon fishing.
The Victorian spa town itself also has much to offer - there are some great shops selling everything from quirky gifts and crafts to clothes, antiques and toys, and a variety of cafés, tea rooms and pubs.
The Wyeside Arts Centre has an exciting programme of dance, plays, films and live music throughout the year and there is also a leisure centre with a swimming pool.
Builth Wells is famous for the annual Royal Welsh Show, the largest agricultural event of its kind in Europe, but the town's showground also hosts horse and dog shows, antiques markets and a winter show, so there's bound to be something of interest going on whenever you visit!
