Studded in a deep valley beneath the Brecon Beacons, this lovingly converted barn is perfect for large groups keen to swap the daily grind for scenic walks and tranquil surroundings.

Nestled in vast swathes of Welsh countryside with views of the brooding Black Mountains in the distance, this rustic stone cottage is perfect for a scenic walking holiday. The property, set in the grounds of a working farm, was once used as a barn for shearing sheep, but now serves as a getaway for up to ten guests of all ages. You can feel a world away from anywhere here, but you’re only 5 miles from the bustling market town of Brecon, so near to shops, restaurants and entertainment venues should you want them.

Inside, the light-filled open-plan living space perfectly blends original features like oak beams, vaulted ceilings and terracotta flooring with contemporary home comforts including a wood burner, Freeview TV and range cooker. The youngsters in your group can play with toys or watch TV in the snug while the grown-ups relax in the lounge with a glass of wine. You’ll find two bedrooms and a walk-in wet room on the ground level, ideal for those with limited mobility. Head upstairs to find the remaining bedrooms, as well as a cosy reading nook on the landing. Outside, drink in the amazing views from the two pretty garden terraces. The kids can burn off some energy playing on the lawn, and the owner will be happy to introduce them to the farm animals.

Explore the miles of hiking and cycle trails that run through the Brecon Beacons National Park. If you fancy a dip, the waterfalls at Nant Sere (3 miles) under Pen y Fan mountain provide the perfect spot for some invigorating wild swimming. If you’d prefer to stay on dry land, enjoy a family day out at Cantref Adventure Farm (1.5 miles). It offers pony trekking, tractor rides and Europe's longest Super Sledge Ride.

A charming and well equipped cottage in a remote and quiet location. With good opportunities to hike right away from the doorsteps, stunning view towards the black mountains. We loved it and would come back, suitable for bigger parties.
