Escape to the Brecon Beacons in style with this charmingly rustic cottage in the popular village of Talybont-on-Usk, the perfect location for canal walks and plenty of peace and quiet.

The traditional Welsh cottage, in the pretty village of Talybont-on-Usk, makes an ideal romantic bolthole or base for a small family. Enjoy peaceful strolls along the canal, directly from the property, or pull on your hiking boots and head into the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park for a day of adventure; scale the heights of Pen-y-Fan (14 miles) or tramp around Talybont Reservoir (2.5 miles).

This rustic cottage has bags of character, carefully mixing traditional features with contemporary styles. A couple of steps lead to the open-plan ground floor, where you’ll discover a stylish galley kitchen and cosy lounge area, thanks to the warming wood burner. After a long walk, curl up with your favourite book in the window seat overlooking the garden. Cottage-style stairs (with no handrail) lead to the two charming bedrooms, one with views towards the mountains and the other looking out over the canal. Outside, there is a mature garden with outdoor seating and a BBQ to enjoy on balmy summer evenings. There’s also a lawn, which is great if you have a four-legged guest.

Talybont-on-Usk is a delightful village with a real community spirit. You’ll discover great eateries serving real ales and local produce, as well as cute arts and crafts shops. There’s a gorgeous 2-mile walk that follows the canal, walking in the footsteps of 17th-century poet Henry Vaughan. Information boards along the route display his poetry and you can bask in the tranquillity that inspired much of his work. If it’s wildlife you’re looking for, head to Talybont Reservoir. Marvel at the migratory birds as you follow the 6-mile loop around the water, passing through woodland and along a section of the Taff Cycle Trail.

Lovely, comfortable and peaceful stay, plenty of parking and the cafe down the road did a great breakfast. As we stated in the winter a lot of shops and attractions were closed across the National Park. However, we were treated to some spectacular scenery as it snowed the whole time we stayed. The cottage was exactly as it was described and perfectRead more for our needs. Hide
