  • Far-reaching views across the Black Mountains from three first-floor bedrooms
Property code: BN305

Traditional cottage set in a beautiful village location , with open fire for cold winter’s evenings in and a beautiful garden set to lawn for enjoying brighter weather outside.

Treat your loved ones to a relaxing staycation in a cottage that’s straight out of a fairy tale, swapping the stresses of modern life for roaring fires, hearty pub lunches and walks in the countryside. Based in the chocolate-box village of Llangynidr, your holiday accommodation sleeps six guests across four bedrooms, placing you close to the village’s popular pubs and a plethora of footpaths.

This attractive cottage has beamed ceilings, glorious outside spaces and an open fire set in an original stone fireplace. Escape blustery cold days by hunkering down by the crackling embers with hot chocolate, and wake up to delicious breakfasts in the cheerful galley-style kitchen/diner. Stairs lead from the lounge to the first floor where you’ll find two double bedrooms, a single bedroom and a bathroom with a shower-over-the-bath. Due to the age of the property, the bedrooms are at various levels, and some have stepped access. The remaining downstairs bedroom has a low door, a single bed and an en-suite shower room. Sip your first coffee of the day in the front garden, and of an afternoon, the rear garden has a terrace with garden furniture and a BBQ so you can sit back and listen to the stream that runs alongside the property. Stone steps lead to a stunning rocky gorge and pool, which is an enchanting place to sit and reflect.

Stroll along the towpath of the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, spot kingfishers on the ethereally pretty River Usk, or bring your bikes and set off on an adventure. Keen fishermen can catch salmon and brown trout in the meandering river, or perhaps you could venture to Llangorse Lake 7 miles away to catch pike, perch and eels. The lake is a popular location for water sports, offering kayaking, paddleboarding and sailing.

Great location for walking the Brecon way, the Talybont reservoir and accessing Crickhowell with its boutiques and pubs. We had fantastic warm welcomes from the staff and locals in the White Hart in Talybont and the Red Lion in Llangynidr which lifted our spirits from the Welsh weather.

The kitchen in Rock Cottage is well equipped and there is a huge number of books to choose from plus games and puzzles for all ages. Cosy cottage with great walks straight out of the door. The location of Rock Corttage is ideal. You have great walks on Llangynidr Mountain, Tor Y Foel, the canal and the Usk. You can just leave your car in the parking space all week and just walk from your door. If you do want to travel then Talybont Waterfalls are brilliant, as are Ystradfelte. Beautiful cottage in a beautiful location. Owner was very helpful. Very narrow lane to the property to be aware of. Only downside was heating was not the best and we had to keep the open fire going as well to stay warm enough. Due to location the water pressure isnt great so dont expect a power shower.
