Authors' Retreat is a delightful and peaceful top floor apartment in a quiet corner of Hay-on-Wye with views over the quaint roof tops to the ancient Hay Castle and The Black Mountains beyond. Just a few minutes' walk along the cobbled lanes and narrow streets into the centre of this small market town; renown for the annual Literary Book Festival when the town is full of well-known literati. Hay is a wonderful mixture of independent local shops of all types, a hub for local food producers and craftspeople as well as the many second hand and antique book shops. There are easy drives and walks out into The Black Mountains from the door, mountain bikes can be hired in town as can canoes to explore The River Wye. Just out of the town along The River Wye is Glasbury with the wonderful River Cafe, one of our favourite places to eat or just have a coffee beside the river. Here you can hire canoes or mountain bikes and even explore the lanes on a "Vespa" scooter.
