Nestled at the foot of the Skirrid, on the eastern edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park and the Wye Valley. It is the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and relax in the great Welsh outdoors. The area is also steeped in history with some of Europe’s finest surviving castles, Abergavenny Castle set against the spectacular hills and Crickhowell Castle, a prominent feature within a small market town, or if you want more of an adventure try canoeing or kayaking on the River Wye. Head inside the shepherds hut and you will find the lounge/diner and sleeping area with an inviting wood burner to snuggle up in front of after a day exploring the area. The lounge area has seating where you can relax and listen to music on the DAB radio or watch a film on the smart TV. There is a handy kettle and toaster in the  main hut whilst the separate kitchen with gas stove, microwave and fridge, is to the side in its own hut. In the evening snuggle up in the comfy double bed and look out at the stars. You will also find a shower room with shower and WC.  The property benefits from the luxury of under floor heating to keep you toasty during the chillier months.

After a day exploring why not enjoy a soak in your own private hot tub, there is also an area set with table and chairs for summer dining and a gas BBQ. There is allocated parking for one car. There is also a lovely tea room on site which is run by the property owners.

A really great week in this beautiful location. An ideal base for relaxing. Only a stones throw away from the Brecon Beacons or the Black Mountains. The team were extremely friendly and accommodating. The hot tub was amazing after a long days trekking, with a glass of wine!

Our holiday cottage was amazing. Best holiday we've had. Beautiful scenery & location, clean and tidy and the owners were very welcoming. We had our own private hot tub which was an added bonus. Lovely tea room around the corner from where we were staying that made a lovely breakfast. We can't wait to book another gateway there.

Initial thoughts were it was less secluded than we thought, but after settling in, it was actually perfect... Surrounded by a private fence high enough for privacy, but not to spoil the views. Everything you needed, extremely comfortable. & the owner was extremely helpful ... Definitely return.

The Brecon Beacons is a vast, mountainous and rural region of Wales. Stretching 42 miles from east to west and covering an area of 520 square miles, the Brecon Beacons is dominated by the National Park of the same name. Split into three main areas, the Black Mountain in the west, the Brecon Beacons National Park and Fforest Fawr in the middle, and the Black Mountains in the east; each is a wild, bold and inspiring place to visit on holiday. With 1232 miles of public trails which includes the 95-mile-long Beacons Way, it’s a wayfarer’s delight. One of four Dark Skies Reserves in the UK (and one of 11 in the world), stargazers can delight in the open night sky, to enjoy the darkness in full splendour. The Fforest Fawr is a UNESCO Global Geopark because of its important geology and a need to conserve and protect the area from negative over development.

Stay at a self-catering cottage in the mountains and cascading woodlands or out on the moors; you can also stay in one of the Brecon Beacon’s lovely towns like Hay-on-Wye, Crickhowell, Llangorse or Brecon. Outdoor lovers will enjoy a choice of easy to challenging treks up and around Sugar Loaf Mountain, Carn Pica, Craig Cerrig-Gleisiad, Pen y Fan, or Hatterall Ridge (and many more besides). Take in uniquely Welsh attractions like Dan-yr-Ogof (the National Showcaves Centre for Wales), The Big Pit Mining Museum, Llanthony Priory, Carreg Cennen Castle, Fourteen Locks, and the Brecon Beacons Mountain Railway. Wildlife abounds in the Brecon Beacons, and it’s a great place to spot red kites and discover the successful story of their reintroduction to the UK’s skies at the Red Kite Centre. There’s so much to do for outdoor lovers and extreme sports fans here, so why not book your self-catering holiday in the Brecon Beacons today?

Our holiday cottages across the Brecon Beacons have been carefully selected. From dog-friendly cottages in the countryside to large farmhouses on the mountainsides and everything in between, we have a holiday in the Brecon Beacons to suit you.
