Set out on foot to explore this western end of the Brecon Beacons National Park, taking in the dramatic Black Mountains and Llyn y Fan Fach (9.5 miles), famous for its legend of the Lady of the Lake or stay closer to home and head to Carreg Cennen castle ( 4 miles ).If you want to adventure a little further head out in the car and visit the show caves at Dan Yr Ogof which is just a 30 minute car ride away. Inside, this tasteful barn conversion is warm and welcoming, with oak beams and flooring, exposed stonework, soft neutral decor and plenty of natural light throughout. Rustle up delicious family meals in the traditional kitchen, where you will find an electric oven, ceramic hob, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, washer/dryer and oak dining table. Afterwards, step into the cosy sitting room, where two large sofas surround a wood burner and TV, perfect for relaxing nights in with the family. A sunny conservatory divides the two barns and offers a peaceful space in which to read in the afternoon. Upstairs are two delightful bedrooms, one double and one king-size, both of which boast matching oak furniture and wonderful rural views. The bedrooms share a fantastic bathroom with a corner bath and shower over the bath.

Outside, a sunny terrace with garden furniture and BBQ leads up to a raised lawn garden with pretty pots and tubs, perfect for dogs and children alike. A hot tub boasts breath-taking views across open countryside, the perfect way to soothe aching muscles after a long walk.

The Brecon Beacons is a vast, mountainous and rural region of Wales. Stretching 42 miles from east to west and covering an area of 520 square miles, the Brecon Beacons is dominated by the National Park of the same name. Split into three main areas, the Black Mountain in the west, the Brecon Beacons National Park and Fforest Fawr in the middle, and the Black Mountains in the east; each is a wild, bold and inspiring place to visit on holiday. With 1232 miles of public trails which includes the 95-mile-long Beacons Way, it’s a wayfarer’s delight. One of four Dark Skies Reserves in the UK (and one of 11 in the world), stargazers can delight in the open night sky, to enjoy the darkness in full splendour. The Fforest Fawr is a UNESCO Global Geopark because of its important geology and a need to conserve and protect the area from negative over development.

Stay at a self-catering cottage in the mountains and cascading woodlands or out on the moors; you can also stay in one of the Brecon Beacon’s lovely towns like Hay-on-Wye, Crickhowell, Llangorse or Brecon. Outdoor lovers will enjoy a choice of easy to challenging treks up and around Sugar Loaf Mountain, Carn Pica, Craig Cerrig-Gleisiad, Pen y Fan, or Hatterall Ridge (and many more besides). Take in uniquely Welsh attractions like Dan-yr-Ogof (the National Showcaves Centre for Wales), The Big Pit Mining Museum, Llanthony Priory, Carreg Cennen Castle, Fourteen Locks, and the Brecon Beacons Mountain Railway. Wildlife abounds in the Brecon Beacons, and it’s a great place to spot red kites and discover the successful story of their reintroduction to the UK’s skies at the Red Kite Centre. There’s so much to do for outdoor lovers and extreme sports fans here, so why not book your self-catering holiday in the Brecon Beacons today?

Our holiday cottages across the Brecon Beacons have been carefully selected. From dog-friendly cottages in the countryside to large farmhouses on the mountainsides and everything in between, we have a holiday in the Brecon Beacons to suit you.
