Property code: MAWRD

Situated on the owners’ 400 acre farm, this attractive cottage nestles on the edge of the Black Mountains in the Brecon Beacons National Park and has stunning views down the valley to Crickhowell.

Situated in rural splendour on the grounds of a working farm, this pretty cottage is an excellent retreat for families and small groups. Offering comfortable sleeping quarters for five guests and two hounds, you’ll have a wealth of options for exploring your surroundings. Set out to investigate the vast expanse of countryside with its hills, ancient woodland and streams from your doorstep, returning for hearty meals and relaxing evenings watching the TV.

Characterised by wooden beams and contemporary decor, the cottage is spacious yet cosy. The open-plan living space is a delight whether you are curling up for films or settling down at the table for meals, following the stone steps up to the kitchen to cook up a feast. The floors are easily wipeable and there is a downstairs shower room to take care of any post-walk mud mishaps, and there is a second bathroom upstairs. There are two bedrooms on the first floor too, including a handy bedroom with three single beds. Outside, there is an unenclosed patio space for sipping a glass of wine in the sunshine. The lack of signal provides an opportunity to escape the daily grind and reconnect with loved ones.

Although slightly further afield, a visit to Pen y Fan is well worth the 21.5-mile drive if you are an adventurer at heart. Adrenaline enthusiasts can scale the mountain, but for those who prefer a quieter pace, the stunning fairy-tale woods and waterfalls tucked in the foothills are beautiful too. Closer to home, Crickhowell 6 miles away has lots of potential for the aspiring foodie thanks to the choice of tearooms, restaurants and pubs, and Abergavenny 11.5 miles away hosts an annual food festival where you can sample delicious local produce by the barrowful.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Amazing stay in this cottage. We stayed for 5 nights with our two dogs and all had an amazing time. The views are incredible, the cottage is really comfortable and has all amenities you would need. The directions to arrive could have been a little clearer what to look out for as we took a while to find the place but the owners took us up and were sRead moreo friendly ! We will definitely come back again! Hide

A comfortable warm tranquil cottage in stunning scenery. Lots of walks direct from the cottage and in the local area. Good birdwatching with red kites overhead and dippers on the River Usk.

Everyones needs are different so the place was warm and comfortable , quite adequate . Somewhat isolated and very quiet but possibly because the other cottages nearby were not in use . Very dark inside which we didnt like , had to use all 9 lights in the lounge ! Lovely views . Surprised there was no welcome at all just told the key was in the doorRead more , left without seeing anyone . Had a good holiday though . Hide

Spacious property. A long way from nearest shop. Ideal for peace and quiet, and lovely views. No phone reception and WiFi is a costly extra. Comfortable, but would benefit from updating.

Lovely quiet retreat in the middle of the Brecon Beacons, miles from any noise, but great location for walking in the Black Mountains and a short drive from Crickhowell.

Note: As the postcode is used to identify the general area of the property, it may not always reflect its precise location, therefore please only use this map as a guide.

The Brecon Beacons is a vast, mountainous and rural region of Wales. Stretching 42 miles from east to west and covering an area of 520 square miles, the Brecon Beacons is dominated by the National Park of the same name. Split into three main areas, the Black Mountain in the west, the Brecon Beacons National Park and Fforest Fawr in the middle, and the Black Mountains in the east; each is a wild, bold and inspiring place to visit on holiday. With 1232 miles of public trails which includes the 95-mile-long Beacons Way, it’s a wayfarer’s delight. One of four Dark Skies Reserves in the UK (and one of 11 in the world), stargazers can delight in the open night sky, to enjoy the darkness in full splendour. The Fforest Fawr is a UNESCO Global Geopark because of its important geology and a need to conserve and protect the area from negative over development.

Stay at a self-catering cottage in the mountains and cascading woodlands or out on the moors; you can also stay in one of the Brecon Beacon’s lovely towns like Hay-on-Wye, Crickhowell, Llangorse or Brecon. Outdoor lovers will enjoy a choice of easy to challenging treks up and around Sugar Loaf Mountain, Carn Pica, Craig Cerrig-Gleisiad, Pen y Fan, or Hatterall Ridge (and many more besides). Take in uniquely Welsh attractions like Dan-yr-Ogof (the National Showcaves Centre for Wales), The Big Pit Mining Museum, Llanthony Priory, Carreg Cennen Castle, Fourteen Locks, and the Brecon Beacons Mountain Railway. Wildlife abounds in the Brecon Beacons, and it’s a great place to spot red kites and discover the successful story of their reintroduction to the UK’s skies at the Red Kite Centre. There’s so much to do for outdoor lovers and extreme sports fans here, so why not book your self-catering holiday in the Brecon Beacons today?

Our holiday cottages across the Brecon Beacons have been carefully selected. From dog-friendly cottages in the countryside to large farmhouses on the mountainsides and everything in between, we have a holiday in the Brecon Beacons to suit you.
