Set in six acres of gardens and meadows, Pond Cottage offers the unique combination of a converted barn overlooking a LILY POND, A SHEPHERD'S HUT with a WOOD BURNING STOVE from which to enjoy spectacular views down The Wye Valley and a chance to view the stars from an ASTRONOMICAL OBSERVATORY. This tranquil location offers peace and privacy within this beautiful landscape, unchanged for centuries, yet within three miles of Hay on Wye.
Pond Cottage was originally the threshing barn and granary for the farmstead at Bythel, which was mentioned in Kilvert's nineteenth century diary. It forms an attractive courtyard with the original farmhouse and is surrounded by six acres of gardens and meadows. It has recently been updated, keeping the beams, arrow slit windows and exposed stonework whilst offering every comfort. Accommodation
Sleeps 2 - 1 King-Size Bed
The entrance hall opens onto an open plan living space with fully equipped oak kitchen with electric oven and hob, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave and tumble dryer, Lloyd Loom dining table and chairs and a comfortable seating area. The french windows give access to the secluded paved area overlooking the large lily pond, ideal for outside dining or barbecuing.
There is the added benefit of a separate utility room with washing machine etc. and space for coats and boots.
The hall and staircase lead to the full height beamed bedroom with exposed stone walls, arrow slit windows and views over the pond and beyond.
Master Bedroom: There is a king sized bed with Egyptian cotton bedlinen, antique Iranian rug and masses of hanging and storage space.
Bathroom: The newly fitted, large bathroom has a roll top bath, hand basin and separate large walk in shower.
There is also a separate toilet with hand basin.
The Shepherd's Hut, set in an adjacent hay meadow, complements the cottage with its wood burning stove, comfortable chairs and writing desk. The location is breathtaking with uninterrupted views across the Wye Valley as far as the Malvern Hills, 45 miles away and in summer the field is a mass of buttercups and other wild flowers. This is a very special private space to enjoy at any time of day.
This dark sky area makes this an ideal location for the Astronomical Observatory. This has a computer controlled 30 cm Meade telescope that enables many astronomical objects to be observed in a short space of time. The owner is happy to give guests a tour of the sky subject to his availability but unfortunately, due to it's complexity, it is not possible for guests to use the telescope on their own.
