Dew Cottage is one of two pretty restored barns recently mentioned in The Saturday Times. Along with Well Cottage and Neuadd Fach Farmhouse these form a collection of 3 wonderful holiday cottages on the edge of The Black Mountains in the eastern Brecon Beacons. All three properties are separate yet lend themselves well to larger parties but each cottage also makes a magical spot for a tranquil holiday. The properties have all retained their character with original oak beams, stone walls and wonderful oak floors. The location is quite breathtaking with glorious panoramic views down the valley to Crickhowell and the Gwyrne Fawr reservoir in one direction and Talgarth in the other. The properties are situated on the owner's 400-acre working farm where they keep sheep, rear pedigree Limousin cattle and breed Welsh Mountain ponies. Wonderful walks criss-cross the area and each property has it's own private outdoor space from which to appreciate the stunning scenery.

Dew Cottage was formally a barn within the original farmyard at Blaenau Mawr. Now its been transformed into a comfortable and attractive cottage which can sleep up to 5 people. The restored oak beams throughout, oak floors and numerous exposed stone walls retain the character of the original barn. A well-designed kitchen and a downstairs shower room compliment the spacious, open plan layout on the ground floor. Whilst upstairs there is a double and a bedroom with 3 single beds as well as a family bathroom. Dew Cottage also boasts a garden with outdoor furniture and a BBQ for long summer evenings soaking up the last of the sun and admiring the views and wildlife.
Enjoy a quintessential Welsh village pub
Just an easy 15-minute stroll down the hill from Dew Cottage is the Farmers Arms pub in Cwmdu. A family run pub with a restaurant area, it offers a wide range of tasty meals from simple baguettes to prime Welsh steaks. Pop in for a bit of banter with the locals and a tasty home-cooked meal made with local produce. The uphill walk home helps make a meal at this friendly local a guilt-free pleasure!
3 miles up the road is Tretower Court and Castle. The castle is a classic moat and bailey example dating from 1150 with additions made in the 13th century. Tretower Court was recently refurbished and re-opened to the public and is thought to originally date from the 14th century and still boasts many fantastic examples of timberwork from that era as well as a delightful reconstructed 15th century garden. A trip to Tretower is a fantastic window into medieval life in the area.
Cwmdu (with village pub) 1 mile, Crickhowell 6 miles, Abergavenny 12 miles.

Crickhowell is the 2018 winner of the best British High Street, and rightly so. It's a wonderful town to visit, with a strong community spirit, almost entirely independent (and excellent) shops, really good pubs and restaurants and award winning cafes. The bustling high street runs down to the idyllic river, with and the majestic Llangattock Escarpment on the other bank. It's easy to get to, it has the Black Mountains to the East and the Brecon Beacons to the West, and it's steeped in history with its castle and the neighbouring Tretower Court and Castle.
