Set within the peaceful grounds of the owners’ country house, just 5 miles from Abergavenny, this contemporary converted barn is the perfect romantic bolthole for your Brecon Beacons escape.

Active couples will rejoice at the setting of this renovated barn, with ample walks, hikes and cycle routes on the doorstep. The cottage is within sight of the popular Offa’s Dyke Path, which stretches for 177 miles along the border of Wales and England. The Three Castles Walk (Skenfrith, Grosmont and White Castle) is also easily accessible from here, and the Black Mountains are just 16 miles away. On-site, enjoy a game of tennis on the owners’ all-weather floodlit court - just bring your own rackets and tennis balls.

Head up three steps to the front door of this unique and spacious barn, which has been tastefully designed to flood each room with natural light. Folding patio doors, floor-to-ceiling windows, and skylights all let the outside in. There are solid maple floors throughout, and the kitchen was hand-built with local pine and oak for a charming country aesthetic. Enjoy a delicious, romantic meal at the dining table, perfectly positioned beside a window so you can dine with a view across the lawn and to the paddocks beyond. The cosy lounge area is a welcome place to unwind at the end of the day, with a contemporary wood burner keeping the room nice and toasty during cold winter months. Here, curl up in front of your favourite TV show or DVD for a quiet night in. Also on the ground floor, there is the spacious king-size bedroom and a bathroom with freestanding roll-top bath and separate shower.

Enjoy the private lawn on sunny days, perhaps enjoying an al fresco meal on the stone terrace, where you’ll find a garden table, chairs and a BBQ. From the garden, drink in the views across the orchard and meadows. There is also private parking.

The Brecon Beacons is a vast, mountainous and rural region of Wales. Stretching 42 miles from east to west and covering an area of 520 square miles, the Brecon Beacons is dominated by the National Park of the same name. Split into three main areas, the Black Mountain in the west, the Brecon Beacons National Park and Fforest Fawr in the middle, and the Black Mountains in the east; each is a wild, bold and inspiring place to visit on holiday. With 1232 miles of public trails which includes the 95-mile-long Beacons Way, it’s a wayfarer’s delight. One of four Dark Skies Reserves in the UK (and one of 11 in the world), stargazers can delight in the open night sky, to enjoy the darkness in full splendour. The Fforest Fawr is a UNESCO Global Geopark because of its important geology and a need to conserve and protect the area from negative over development.

Stay at a self-catering cottage in the mountains and cascading woodlands or out on the moors; you can also stay in one of the Brecon Beacon’s lovely towns like Hay-on-Wye, Crickhowell, Llangorse or Brecon. Outdoor lovers will enjoy a choice of easy to challenging treks up and around Sugar Loaf Mountain, Carn Pica, Craig Cerrig-Gleisiad, Pen y Fan, or Hatterall Ridge (and many more besides). Take in uniquely Welsh attractions like Dan-yr-Ogof (the National Showcaves Centre for Wales), The Big Pit Mining Museum, Llanthony Priory, Carreg Cennen Castle, Fourteen Locks, and the Brecon Beacons Mountain Railway. Wildlife abounds in the Brecon Beacons, and it’s a great place to spot red kites and discover the successful story of their reintroduction to the UK’s skies at the Red Kite Centre. There’s so much to do for outdoor lovers and extreme sports fans here, so why not book your self-catering holiday in the Brecon Beacons today?

Our holiday cottages across the Brecon Beacons have been carefully selected. From dog-friendly cottages in the countryside to large farmhouses on the mountainsides and everything in between, we have a holiday in the Brecon Beacons to suit you.
