Within easy reach of the Brecon Beacons’ famous mountains, including Skirrid, Sugar Loaf, and The Black Mountains, this cosy cottage is perfect for active couples looking to escape.

Set among the lush green meadows of the Monmouthshire countryside, this cosy bolthole next to the owner’s home offers a scenic escape from the bustle of everyday life. But as the cottage is only 3 miles from Abergavenny, you won’t be too far away from the action should you want shops, cultural attractions and nightlife. Nature lovers will be spoilt for choice for walks in the Brecon Beacons, while foodies will also be in their element as Abergavenny is famous for its annual food festival, as well as pubs and restaurants offering superb dining options all year round.

The valley views from the comfortable lounge/diner are enough to keep you mesmerised all day, but you’ll get an even better natural spectacle from the private patio tucked away at the back of the cottage. Get your morning off to the best possible start with an al fresco breakfast – weather permitting of course. Before you know it, you’ll have whiled away a whole morning here, watching the sheep grazing in the neighbouring fields and birds soaring overhead. Upstairs, the tastefully decorated double bedroom has its own shower room, so you can step straight in when you rise and shine.

If you can tear yourself away from the cottage, pull on your walking boots and hike to the summit of Skirrid mountain. Remember to take a jacket with you as it can be quite breezy at the top! There are lots of options for more gentle walks in the Brecon Beacons National Park too, making this a fantastic place to explore whatever your age or ability. For a nostalgic day out, hop aboard the Blaenavon Heritage Railway (11 miles), which also stops off at the world-famous Big Pit National Coal Museum.

Clares cottage is clean, cozy and comfortable with continuous hot water. The bed & sofas are very comfortable. It is in a peaceful location with lovely views. The hosts live next door but the cottage is not overlooked so it is private. We had a wonderful stay. Highly recommend. 5 stars.

It was our second time at Clare's cottage and again we loved it. We were blessed with lovely weather which allowed us to go for long walks or simply sit in the enclosed patio of the cottage. The cottage itself is a little gem with everything you need for a comfortable stay. We will definitely go back.

We had a wonderful time, the cottage was lovely and very well equipped and very warm, which was great considering the weather. We will definitely go back again. You do need a car but you could walk if you are feeling energetic. Abergavenny is a lovely town and there were 2 mountains to climb, one even within walking distance.
