This absolute gem of a cottage 'a real woodman's cottage' set in the tranquil woodlands with the symphony of the bird song to wake up to in this very special place to stay. It is a real picture book little cottage with a stone over the front door saying 1836. Tynycoed meaning House in the Wood is where The Parry Family once lived and worked; the cottage has been beautifully and sympathetically restored and furnished to reflect its period Welsh cottage charm.
Over the years the intrepid and the artistic have sought solace and creative refuge in this woodland haven. Now visitors can enjoy the best of both worlds and enjoy central heating and a wood burning stove - the cottage is warm and comfortable but still retaining a great deal of its' character with exposed beams, curved walls, wooden lintels, stone floors in the kitchen, wooden stairs and old oak floor boards up stairs.
The estate has 2 miles of double bank fishing for 4 rods for trout or salmon booked through The Wye & Usk foundation 'Fennifach' Beat.
Only a mile and a half along the very quiet single road and then a track beside The River Usk from the market town of Brecon yet you are in your own fairy-tale setting surrounded by a rich variety of flora and fauna. The final bit of the long winding lane is a quite rough-surfaced track and a bit bumpy in places (but perfectly passable in an ordinary family car) that leads you up to the cottage alongside the River Usk and through prize-winning oak woodland, though there is also a more direct footpath up- hill from the village.
The cottage was built for the former estate woodman and his family, working this 200 acre area of woodland for Lord Tredegar - a great Welsh landowner of the day, whose family had acquired this ancient woodland from the Crown (Charles the Second) to which it had escheated (passed on to) on the Duke of Buckingham's execution for treason against Richard the Third prior to Bosworth in 1483.
Sleeps 2/3 - 1 King-Size 1 Single
The cottage kitchen has the original flagstone floors, a Belfast sink, an electric cooker and hob, fridge/freezer, microwave, washing machine and a kitchen table and chairs.
A cosy living room still has the large original fireplace with bread oven, complete with wood-burning stove, comfortable sofa and arm chair and HD TV with Freesat and DVD.
The charming bathroom is downstairs and has a stylish, walk-in shower, freestanding period roll top bath, toilet and sink.
Up fairly steep wooden stairs:
Bedroom 1: A large landing with a single bed tucked in the corner.
Bedroom 2: This is reached by walking through bedroom 1/the landing - to a lovely and romantic bedroom with a king sized bed, beautiful linen and traditional furniture befitting the period of the house. The windows peep out over the woodland.
There is plenty of outside space the cottage with visitors free to explore the surrounding 200 acres of mixed woodland. There is a small terraced area for table and chairs and BBQ in a natural garden setting, with the garden in the process of being reclaimed.
