This 18th century hill farm cowshed with breath taking scenery is somewhere that visitors will fall in love with and return time and time again. Set in a peaceful traditional farmstead, the location is glorious at the foothills of the Brecon Beacons, only 4 miles from the centre of Brecon and close to the summit of the highest peak in South Wales, Pen y Fan. A truly restorative place to stay, combining all the benefit of being secluded in the hills with conveniences nearby.
Tircue Beasthouse is a former cowshed - 'beasts' being cattle in old medieval tongue and are still referred to as such by older generation farmers here. Indeed, eighteen cows were resident every winter up until the late 80s from whence it became a store for the hay baler and the plough. The farmstead itself is much older - being on a once important livestock droving route to London. Cattle, sheep and even geese were re-shod here on their way - 'cue' meaning shoe. The path was also well trod by Romans and appears on the earliest known cartographic maps of Britain. At the entrance to Tircue you can access this ancient hollow way route, and follow the 'gap road' to the peaks of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Jump out of bed and head straight up the hill by foot, cycle, or by use of the nearby Cantref riding centre!
The Beasthouse has been lovingly and superbly converted in a contemporary style using traditional materials of oak, slate and lime. Great attention to detail provides a most comfortable and tranquil place to stay. Enjoy the owner's collection of Welsh paintings, curl up and read from the selection of titles on the bookshelves, or a film. Relax in the garden and hear a cuckoo all day long in early summer and smell the hay making in the meadow. This is really the perfect place to stay for keen walkers or cyclists, wildlife seekers, time outers, and artists alike.
Sleeps 4 - 1 King Size, 1 Double
There is a pretty entrance hall with a place to leave wet weather gear, boots and coats etc. and a washing machine.
Downstairs shower room: With a super powerful walk in shower on underfloor heated Welsh slate- it makes you feel as if you have been in a Spa, - there is also a hand basin and toilet.
A spacious, light and open plan room for dining or relaxing with a choice of very comfy sofas and armchairs. TV with Free view and DVD, and very efficient underfloor heating powered by the external Biomass boiler. The dining area has a dining table and chairs with plenty of room for eating together.
Just off the dining area is the kitchen with its funky purple electric Aga, Belfast sink, fridge, microwave and table top freezer. The kitchen has a stable door which leads out to the garden.
There are table and chairs just outside the door for a quick cup of coffee and then up some steep steps (not suitable for toddlers) is a garden and lawn with garden furniture and the most wonderful views up to Pen y Fan and the other peaks of the Beacons, giving you the most fantastic sense of being on top of the world.
Bedroom 1: A romantic king-size bed with a luxurious Visprung new mattress and a freestanding bath.
There is also a private bathroom with toilet and wash hand basin. Well lit by the former hayloft window and rooflights.
Bedroom 2: A bedroom with a double bed, again with Visprung mattress and with a private bathroom with toilet and hand basin.
Again this room has wonderful views over to the peaks of the Beacons and the rolling Breconshire countryside. The rooflights prove excellent for star watching from the comfort of your bed - a bonus in our recently designated Dark Skies area.
Both bedrooms are luxurious, romantic and relaxing.
With the great oak cruck beams, handmade oak doors and windows, beautiful warm wooden floor boards upstairs and warm slate floors downstairs with underfloor heating, Tircue Beasthouse is a truly restorative place to hideaway, or set off on mountain adventures, to relax and re-charge your batteries whatever the weather throws at you. The barn and the neighbouring farmhouse is reached ultimately up a long winding narrow lane with no passing places, (this probably should be pointed out for visitors who worry about hedges brushing against their cars, or who find reversing difficult).
There is farmland and yard access past Tircue Beasthouse used by the family owned farm for the occasional tractor and quad bike, as this is on the track to fields and a Dutch Barn. Sensitivity to your privacy and peace is assured and this is part of life on a Beacons farm - the hill sheep overwintering and lambing on the surrounding meadows and then harvesting hay and silage in the summer. The farmhouse is in separate private and quiet occupation and you are not overlooked.
