A very pretty canal side cottage with gorgeous views from the windows across the Brecon and Monmouthshire Canal. The private cottage garden is a lovely place to sit in the morning sunshine watching the attractively painted traditional canal boats and the water fowl or to enjoy a glass of wine as the sun sets. The River Usk is nestled in the water meadows just two fields below the canal; this is reached over a stone bridge and down a green lane. Less than a mile's stroll along the canal tow path takes you either to the village of Talybont or in the other direction to Pencelli. Both villages have local pubs with food.
There is a very large and attractive entrance hall and a downstairs shower room with handbasin and toilet.
The kitchen has now been completely refitted with an electric cooker with extractor fan, electric hob, a microwave, dishwasher and a full size fridge and a freezer. There is a washing machine, coffee maker, toaster etc.
The back door leads to the garden with a porch and room for storage.
A cellar contains the central heating/hot water boiler. But visitors will not normally need to access this.
The dining room connects the kitchen and sitting room. There is a pine dining table and chairs and a fireplace with woodburning stove. The sitting room is well-furnished witha a sofa and chairs and a flat screen TV (SKY freeview) with DVD player. There are a selection of DVD's available.
Up fairly steep flight of stairs to three bedrooms:
Bedroom1: A bedroom with a double bed
Bedroom 2: A bedroom with twin beds
Bedroom 3: A bedroom with a single bed
A folding bed with duvet etc is also provided.
The Bathroom: bath with a shower over, hand basin and toilet.
There is a large and very well kept and sunny garden with lawn and fruit trees and a low wall in front of the canal and not enclosed - so not suitable for small children.
Forge Cottage at Cross Oak is a most attractive house built in the 1880s on a site originally dating back to the eighteenth century. As the name indicates, it was originally connected with an old forge where all the local farmers would bring their working horses to be shod. The house has always been in the same family ownership with pictures on the walls showing how the exterior of the cottage has not changed very much over the years.
This is a good location for anyone wishing to explore the area, it is only a few minutes to the lane up to Talybont Reservoir, The very stunning and beautiful Blaen y Glyn Mountain road that passes the reservoirs and well known Blaen Glyn waterfalls. The cottage is right on The Taff Trail cycle route and there are foot paths leading up to the Peaks of the Brecon Beacons.
Talybont on Usk is 1 mile with three village pubs, a small gallery and a thriving village shop, cafe and Post Office; Pencelli is 1 mile and again has an excellent village pub The Royal Oak. Llanfrynach is 3 miles.
The market town of Brecon is 5 miles. Buses pass this property from Abergavenny to Brecon (infrequently).
Severn Bridge 1 hour, Bristol 1.5 hours, London and Manchester 3.5 hours and Birmingham 2 hours.
