Return from the village with armloads of local produce ready to cook up a storm in the country cottage-style kitchen/diner, feasting together at the table or heading outside to dine alfresco. Warm your toes by the wood burner in the lounge and kick back on the sofas with a glass of wine in hand, or perch at the table for family board games. Steep stairs lead up to two elegant bedrooms finished with subtle floral details and cosy bedding, and both share the pretty bathroom with a shower-over-the-bath and sloped ceilings. Outside, the walled garden is accessed via a few steps and is ideal for afternoon tea in the sunshine.

Llangorse Lake is easily reached within 6.5 miles, where you can take to the water by boat, kayak or paddleboard to embrace the scenery. Cycling, walking and even pony trekking are also options if you wish to explore the lake in style, refuelling with coffee and cake in the welcoming cafe. This is our second (and definitely not our last) visit to Ash Cottage. Its location is quiet, but not isolated, in this friendly village. The cottage is spotlessly clean and tidy. It is very well equipped, homely and just a joy to stay in. It is dog friendly and has a good sized, safe and enclosed garden. This is an absolute gem of a cottage - do yRead moreourself a favour and stay here! Hide

The Brecon Beacons is a vast, mountainous and rural region of Wales. Stretching 42 miles from east to west and covering an area of 520 square miles, the Brecon Beacons is dominated by the National Park of the same name. Split into three main areas, the Black Mountain in the west, the Brecon Beacons National Park and Fforest Fawr in the middle, and the Black Mountains in the east; each is a wild, bold and inspiring place to visit on holiday. With 1232 miles of public trails which includes the 95-mile-long Beacons Way, it’s a wayfarer’s delight. One of four Dark Skies Reserves in the UK (and one of 11 in the world), stargazers can delight in the open night sky, to enjoy the darkness in full splendour. The Fforest Fawr is a UNESCO Global Geopark because of its important geology and a need to conserve and protect the area from negative over development.

Stay at a self-catering cottage in the mountains and cascading woodlands or out on the moors; you can also stay in one of the Brecon Beacon’s lovely towns like Hay-on-Wye, Crickhowell, Llangorse or Brecon. Outdoor lovers will enjoy a choice of easy to challenging treks up and around Sugar Loaf Mountain, Carn Pica, Craig Cerrig-Gleisiad, Pen y Fan, or Hatterall Ridge (and many more besides). Take in uniquely Welsh attractions like Dan-yr-Ogof (the National Showcaves Centre for Wales), The Big Pit Mining Museum, Llanthony Priory, Carreg Cennen Castle, Fourteen Locks, and the Brecon Beacons Mountain Railway. Wildlife abounds in the Brecon Beacons, and it’s a great place to spot red kites and discover the successful story of their reintroduction to the UK’s skies at the Red Kite Centre. There’s so much to do for outdoor lovers and extreme sports fans here, so why not book your self-catering holiday in the Brecon Beacons today?

Our holiday cottages across the Brecon Beacons have been carefully selected. From dog-friendly cottages in the countryside to large farmhouses on the mountainsides and everything in between, we have a holiday in the Brecon Beacons to suit you.
