Swallows Nest is a delightful cosy cottage with character, private outdoor space and friendly owners. The cottage is approximately 3 miles from Abergavenny now famous for its flourishing Food Festival and 7 miles from Raglan where the castle is really worth a visit being one of the best preserved in this area and now maintained by CADW. With very easy access to Monmouth and the Welsh Marches this is the perfect cottage to stay in if walking in The Black Mountains or on The Blorenge which is can be seen rising up majestically across the valley, very often hang gliders can be seen riding the thermals around this landmark. The owners recommend the Three Castles Walk passing through Grosmont Castle, Skenfrith Castle and White Castle near Llantilio which dates from the 1200's.
This ground floor cottage, originally a cowshed is tucked away with its own little private courtyard garden with garden table and chairs and a BBQ. There is a kitchen has everything you need with an electric cooker, microwave, fridge and a freezer, a washing machine and dining table and chairs.
The bathroom: Has a bath with the shower over, hand basin and toilet.
The sitting room is comfortable with sofa (can also be used as a sofa bed) and chairs and Freeview TV with a DVD.
There is a downstairs bedroom with a double bed and a Freeview TV. This does make it easy for visitors with walking difficulties but the shower is over the bath.
From the cottage it is less than a 1 mile to The Hardwicke now a renowned restaurant with the TV chef Steven Terry. At Skenfrith there is The Bell at Skenfrith again a gastro pub - awarded The Michelin Pub of the Year in 2007.
The King of Prussia is less than 1 mile up the road and is a good family pub that has also lots of entertainment and events in the evenings. The Cripple Creek is again another good value restaurant 6 miles up the road. The Park Hotel at Pandy is also highly recommended by the owners for dinner. The perfect place for afternoon tea is The Angel in Abergavenny.
