Please be aware that major roadworks will be taking place on the A465 Heads of the Valleys road from January 2015. The access road to Hayman's Old Stable Cottage and to the village will be affected and the cottage and grounds will possibly be affected by some construction noise from time to time.
The cottage is an attractively restored stable block in the grounds of the owner's house which dates back to the 18th century. The cottage lies adjacent to the ruins of the Clydach Ironworks, now an ancient monument, alongside the picturesque Clydach river which runs through the dramatic Clydach gorge. The river runs behind the cottage, it is fenced off but visitors with adventurous children should be aware that, especially in the winter, the river is sometimes quite a torrent. On the southern edge of Brecon Beacons National Park the nearest village to Clydach is Gilwern (1 mile) which has shops and pubs and lies on the Brecon & Monmouthshire canal. The cottage is just 4 miles from the market town of Abergavenny and 4 miles from Crickhowell, it is also historically linked to the industrial heritage of the area - 'Cordell's Country' - being the birth place of Thomas Phillips the mayor of Newport during the Chartist uprising. Hayman's Old Stable Cottage is ideally situated for walking, cycling, touring and caving and has convenient access to the A465 Heads of the Valleys road. The Clydach Gorge has the greatest concentration of disused tramroads and inclines anywhere in Wales, most of which feature in the Clydach Gorge walk which passes by the cottage.
Sleeps 4 - 1 Double Room, 1 Twin Room (all on ground floor)
A spacious open-plan kitchen/living area has a well fitted cream and pine kitchen with a ceramic hob and electric oven, dishwasher, microwave/grill, fridge/freezer, washing machine, dining table and chairs and leather sofas. There is a beautiful oak floor throughout with rugs. A Freeview flat screen TV, DVD and CD player are provided. Heating is via LPG gas central heating with a freestanding woodburning- effect gas stove and mains electricity.
Bedroom 1: Double bedroom with a small en suite shower, handbasin and toilet.
Bedroom 2: With twin beds and an en suite shower room with handbasin and toilet.
There is ample storage in each bedroom.
