This characterful stone barn in the grounds of a working farm is ideal for families and friends looking for a peaceful holiday in breathtaking countryside with plenty of activities nearby. The property is situated 1 mile outside the peaceful village of Painscastle, with its traditional village inn, and is just above the Begwyns (3 miles) - 580 acres of National Trust hills and rolling countryside with magnificent views over the Brecon Beacons National Park.

This attractive, two-storey house offers picturesque views across the valley from the moment you arrive to the farm. Enter through the French doors and step into a welcoming lobby where you can leave your boots and coats. On the ground floor is the heart of the house; the spacious country-style kitchen with an open-plan dining area is perfect for entertaining and boasts a cosy wood burner for chilly evenings. Enjoy gathering around the dining table overlooking the valley for celebratory meals. At the rear of the barn, a small staircase leads to a contemporary shower room, a double bedroom and a spacious king-size bedroom with an en-suite bathroom. Upstairs to the first floor, in the light and airy lounge, you can make yourself comfortable on the colourful seating in front of the TV or retreat to the small nook that's perfect for board games or a cosy holiday read. On this floor, you'll find two more bedrooms - one double and one twin - and a bathroom. Outside, you can fire up the BBQ on sunny evenings and make yourself comfortable at the outdoor dining table and chairs. You can also explore the surrounding woods and countryside.

The Brecon Beacons National Park and the Wye Valley offer plenty of outdoor activities, including walking and canoeing within 10 miles. Alternatively, explore Offa's Dyke Path (14 miles) or Hay-on-Wye (6 miles), famous for its annual International Book Festival and home to an arthouse cinema, The Globe at Hay, as well as many second-hand bookshops and independent shops. Brecon (20 miles) hosts an annual jazz festival and is a vibrant market town with a museum, cathedral and canal towpath for you to discover.

A lovely location, great hosts, and everything you need. What's not to like? From the moment we arrived it felt like home. The views are spectacular, plenty for the kids to do, they even got to feed a baby lamb. Just what you need for a relaxing getaway.
