Enjoying a unique location at the foot of the Black Mountains, this peaceful retreat offers direct access onto the mountains and is within walking distance of the small but traditional town of Talgarth.

This character-packed house is set in an excellent location for discovering the Brecon Beacons National Park, based just 1 mile from Talgarth. Discover the breathtaking views and majestic scenery as you scale the Black Mountains, or wander through the Pwll y Wrach Nature Reserve. Exhilarated by the local landscape, your accommodation is the perfect place to unwind after a busy day thanks to the crackling wood burner, or perhaps you would prefer to relax with a BBQ on your private terrace with a glass of wine in hand.

Forming the side wing of the owner’s home yet guaranteeing privacy, the house is brimming with tradition, having once served as an 18th-century farm building. High ceilings, character beams and a stone fireplace set the scene on chilly evenings, creating a delightful setting for sharing a bottle of something special by the wood burner. You’ll spot artwork created by the owner and his contemporaries at every turn, especially when dining in style at the table. There’s a kitchen cleverly concealed against the rear wall, and you’ll have access to an outside terrace as well as shared use of the large garden. At bedtime, the double bedroom is cosy and inviting with an en-suite shower room.

Prepare a picnic and embark on an adventure, venturing through the ancient woodland and wild garlic of the nearby nature reserve to see the impressive waterfalls. Talgarth and the nearby area offers a treasure trove of eateries, independent shops and a working mill, and the River Wye is first-rate for fishing and riverside walks. If you are feeling energetic, there are canoeing and kayaking opportunities, or perhaps you would like to try wild swimming at The Warren 8 miles away. Hay-on-Wye 8.5 miles away is liberally scattered with bookshops and tearooms – a great combination for literature lovers.

We had a lovely time on our stay. Neil and Sue were extremely welcoming and accommodating and provided us with some basics to welcome us and plenty of firewood throughout our stay. From the start, with a welcome tour by the owner, we loved our stay. The house has a comfortable lounge and the kitchen/dining room is spacious, better than expected. A welcome pack of basic food essentials and fresh flowers, from the garden, and original artwork around the house added to the week.
