In an enviable spot right next to a canal** and with wonderful views over the Usk Valley, this traditional cottage is the perfect base for walking holidays in Mid Wales. Inside, find a warming wood burner set into a stone fireplace, wooden floorboards, and beautiful cottage windows, while outside in the large lawned garden are fruit trees and a low stone wall bordering the canal. Just 1 mile away sits the charming village of Talybont-on-Usk, home to a friendly shop, choice of pubs, waterside strolls and plenty of wildlife.

Inside, this delightful period cottage has been tastefully modernised to provide light and airy accommodation with plenty of original features retained. Rustle up tasty meals in the modern, tiled kitchen, which is fitted with everything you could need, before dining with a picturesque view of rolling Welsh countryside. In the evenings, fire up the wood burner and settle in for a cosy night of films, TV or games, before retiring to one of the three elegantly presented bedrooms. When the sun is shining, there’s no better place to enjoy a homemade picnic than on the private lawn while watching the boats breeze by along the canal.

Sitting on the banks of the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, this property enjoys an idyllic location in the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Stroll along the towpath or enjoy further waterside walks along the river or around the nearby 318-acre Talybont Reservoir. For more challenging terrains, head deeper into the national park to take on one of its many peaks including the mighty Pen-y-Fan, just 9 miles away. No trip to this area is complete without a visit to Brecon (7.5 miles), a market town famous for its jazz festival, independent shops and cafes, and magnificent cathedral.

Lovely cottage in a brilliant location. It was really fun watching the barges going past the end of the garden and also so nice being able to walk to the village along the tow path.

The cottage was lovely the whole family wanted to stay longer. Beds were a bit hard (but we are not use to springs). Bedding was clean and fresh. Views were amazing. We biked a lot round the area. Kitchen well equipped. Daughter and her boyfriend loved the mezzanine. Could do with a comfier and bigger sofa as we all had to sit in different areas. WRead moree will be back again. Thankyou (hope you liked your flowers). Amanda & Peter Dixon Hide

A lovely cottage in a fabulous location in walking distance of Talybont on Usk which had 2 lovely pubs and a good cafe and village store. Garden was lovely by the canal so we could watch the boats and walkers passing by. We cycled and walked in the area most days. A good size for 5 of us and I would definitely recommend.

One of the best cottages we've stayed in: excellent views and location right in the centre of the Brecon Beacons, well-stocked store conveniently down the road, well-maintained, comfortable beds, full of history (apparently as the name implies, it used to be a forge where farmers brought their horses to be shod!) with old photos of the cottage and Read morearea on the wall... It was about as close to perfect as you'd hope! It felt like the cottage owners really went above and beyond, so many thanks! Hide
