A picture-perfect bolthole, this two-person cottage in Crai is ideal for exploring Mid Wales and the Brecon Beacons National Park. Located on a 220-acre working farm, the property is surrounded by sprawling fields and scenic rural landscape, perfect for those looking for a peaceful escape. Get out on invigorating country walks, head to the local village of Sennybridge (3 miles) for a meal in the pub and return to hunker down on the sofa with a book, enjoying a relaxing getaway.

One of three lovingly converted cottages, this one-bedroom, one-bathroom property is just right for solo escapes and romantic hideaways. Quirky, country decor throughout will make you feel at home. The heart of the cottage, the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner is accessed via a step down and is a cosy space for perusing local maps and reading books. For meals in, the pretty kitchen has everything you could need for rustling up feasts, including an oven and hob. And, if you get muddy on your explorations, there is even a washing machine too. For other gear and extra food, a secure outhouse stores a freezer and has room for bikes and outdoor kit.

For days when you just feel like lighting up the BBQ and relaxing with a cool drink, this cottage has a small patio space to the front with BBQ and outdoor seating. Other days, you can branch out to explore the Welsh countryside, from the picturesque valleys to the national park’s highest mountain, Pen y Fan (14.5 miles). Brecon (14 miles) has lots of restaurants, shops and cafés as well as a castle, museum and canal walk. For a completely different side of the National Park, the National Showcaves Centre (7.5 miles) is ideal for underground adventures.

We really enjoyed our stay in the Barley Store - perfect for the two of us with everything we needed. We spent the week walking, and the property was lovely to come back to each day - the boiler room was so useful for drying out our walking boots and coats overnight. The kitchen was well equipped to cook ourselves an evening meal each night - we diRead mored a main food shop at the Morrisons in Brecon on the way to our accommodation knowing that we would be a little remote and that worked perfectly. Situated at a sheepfarm in a building with three holiday cottages. Very quiet surroundings. Equipment very complete. Good shower. A bit narrow double bed in the sleeping room which is upstairs. Within half an hour drive by car you can visit National Park Visitor's centre, Brecon or make nice hikes in Waterfall country.

It was a good week here, walking long circulars locally from the door 5 days, car used on day 6 for a longer one. Sadly weather wasn't really conducive to driving to the Beacons & trekking over there as I'd hoped, but I was happy in my choices as the lovely landscape, sights of red kites, birdsong and wild flowers along the hedgerows were all a joyRead more. Well equipped and comfortable cottage on a working farm. There are 3 units within one building and we were at one end. The cottage is compact but great for 2 people. . Remote enough to be lovely and quiet but easy drive to fully explore the surrounding area.
