This charming accommodation offers a truly relaxing spot for a solo expedition or romantic retreat for two in the heart of Hay-on-Wye - the perfect bolthole for literature lovers.

Close to the heart of Hay-on-Wye, this bolthole is perfect for a romantic retreat for two. Step out of your door and onto well-trodden paths, browse the bookshops or tuck into a delicious meal, or head further afield and into the magnificent Brecon Beacons National Park. After days spent in the great outdoors, this pretty home welcomes you back to relax and unwind in style.

Boasting glimpses of rolling hills and views across the surrounding cobbled streets, this first-floor apartment is nestled in the eaves of the building and has characterful sloping ceilings throughout. The lounge is filled with natural light which floods in through the skylight and beautifully complements the exposed beams which line the ceiling. Sink into the sofa and lose yourself in a book from the shelf, or switch on the TV and watch your favourite programme. When it’s time for dinner, the bright kitchen/diner has plenty of worktop space for preparing and cooking up a feast. Rustle up something tasty then plate up at the table and raise a glass. Before bed, enjoy a relaxing soak in the bath or a quick rinse in the shower over the bath and then rest your head in the double bedroom.

Explore Hay-on-Wye with ease and take a wander down to The Warren on the River Wye where you will find a shingle beach perfect for a picnic. Hire a canoe in nearby Glasbury (5.5 miles), or take to the water at Llangorse Lake, the largest natural lake in South Wales which is 13 miles from home. Sitting on the outskirts of the National Park, make the journey south and explore the peaks, the highest of which, Pen-y-Fan, is 24 miles away.

Well situated on the edge of town for easy walking into the centre. Very small name plate on the outside wall is covered with ivy. We drove up and down several times before abandoning the car and searching on foot. Two flights of stairs to the flat which was clean and well fitted out. The rooms were all a good size but the eaves situation meant thaRead moret headroom negated use of a lot of the space. We found the bed quite comfortable but the shower needs more power, just trickles out. Hide

The owner needs to upgrade the flat to at least a minimum standard. it could be so much more.

Owner David was great host and on hand if needed. Flat was warm and welcoming and well equipped. Easy walk into the shops and cafes. A very relaxing stay.

Both the sofa and the bed were extremely uncomfortable and the hot water pressure to the bath was completely inadequate. Showers were impossible and it took about 20 minutes to run enough hot water for a shallow bath. It's a lovely little flat and would be hugely improved by new sofa cushions and a new mattress.

The off-street parking is really useful, as Hay-on-Wye doesn't seem to have much unrestricted on-street parking.
