The remote cottage, perched high on the hillside and boasting spectacular panoramic views, is perfectly placed for enjoying long countryside rambles and romantic cycle rides through the Brecon Beacons National Park. Take a stroll into the pretty nearby village of Talybont-on-Usk (1.5 miles) for a traditional pub lunch or enjoy an activity-filled afternoon out on the water at Llangorse Lake (8.5 miles).
A private track leads to this charming cottage. The period property is brimming with character, thanks to its chapel-style windows, quarry tiles and original fireplace. After a tiring day of adventure, rustle up a tasty meal in the light and bright kitchen/diner, before snuggling up in front of the cosy wood burner with a glass of wine and a good film on the TV. Relax aching limbs in the gorgeous roll-top bath, before retiring to one of the quaint bedrooms, both of which boast glorious countryside views. On a summer’s evening, embrace your rural surroundings and dine alfresco in the delightful garden, soaking up the peace and tranquillity.
You really are spoilt for choice when it comes to walks in the area and mountains to climb. One option is the trail walk which starts in the riverside village of Llangynidr, following the canal to Tor y Foel. The views from its summit are truly breathtaking, looking out over the reservoir and towards Sugar Loaf Mountain. There’s also a traditional country pub en route, to refuel. Llangorse Lake makes a great family day out. It’s the largest natural lake in Mid and South Wales and is surrounded by a patchwork of lush green fields. You can launch your own boat on the water or hire one of the many vessels, including rowing boats, canoes and stand-up paddleboards.
