Leave your routine behind and wake each morning in a cosy railway carriage to the sound of the babbling stream. After days exploring the Brecon Beacons National Park or the Herefordshire countryside, light the firepit and toast marshmallows to your heart’s content before getting snug in front of the wood burner and settling down for a romantic night. Bring two pups with you to enjoy your idyllic location.
Follow the path through the meadow, head over the wooden bridge and step up to the terrace to head inside. Cleverly designed, the space inside this converted railway carriage is maximised and has all you need to enjoy a rural stay. Chairs sit in front of a wood burner-effect electric fire, a table and stools pull out from underneath the inviting, raised double bed and there is a TV that is perfectly positioned for lazy mornings under the covers. Country style flows throughout, cosy furnishings are dotted about and pretty decorative features line the walls. The terrace is covered so you can spend time in the fresh air whatever the weather, and when it’s sunny you can relax in the hammock by the brook. Make use of the BBQ, outdoor furniture and firepit, and freshen up in the shower room before heading out to explore. There is off-road parking for two cars.
For all your foodie needs or date nights away from the carriage, make the 5.5-mile trip to Abergavenny which has a handful of celebrated restaurants and hosts a food festival every September. Abergavenny is a great starting point for a walk, and you can climb the Sugar Loaf mountain for wonderful views. Nearby, Keeper’s Pond (10 miles) has a path leading up the Blorenge mountain or is great for a waterside dog walk. Cross the England/Wales border and explore the Wye Valley AONB (15 miles).
