Cyfarthfa CastleWell worth a visit for the sheer range of activities on offer here, Cyfarthfa Castle was commissioned by the Crawshay family in 1824 and sits above the town of Merthyr Tydfil. This castellated mansion was originally built to overlook the hugely successful ironworks owned by William Crayshaw, indeed Merthyr was once known as the iron capital of the world. Housing a museum and art galley and set in beautiful parkland, this site has now been developed to include more child-friendly features such as a miniature railway and family playzone and splash pad, as well as new cafe. Please note that some facilities are only open during the summer months.
