| A charming village, just a few minutes walk from the largest natural lake in South Wales. Llangorse boasts a beautiful setting with views of the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains all around; an abundance of migratory wild fowl amongst the reedy shores of the lake; interesting natural flora such as the white and yellow lily and the yellow flag iris; and a wide range of leisure activities.
There are all types of water sports on the lake with canoes and boats available to hire. Coarse fishing is also available. The two riding centres offer pony trekking up in the hills as well as lessons. The Rope Centre which has one of the best climbing walls in Europe, offers climbing, pot-holing,and abseiling with fully qualified instructors and the hire of all equipment. In the nearby Talgarth area there is a gliding centre. Llangorse is within easy reach of the many walks in the Brecon Beacons and there is direct access onto the Black Mountains which rise up behind the village. In the village itself there are two pubs which serve good food; a small newsagents/shop; and of local historic interest, the Church (Llangorse means Church in the swamp) which dates back to the 17th Century and houses fragments of early Christian stones. From here it is easy to reach the towns of Brecon which is 6 miles away; Hay-on-Wye which is 12 miles away; and Abergavenny the nearest railway station is 15 miles. |
