HEREFORDSHIRE
Herefordshire and the Marches border the Hay -on-Wye and Abergavenny area along the Black Mountains, made famous by the Offa's Dyke footpath. The City of Hereford itself is well worth a visit for its ancient Cathedral where the oldest map in the world The Mappa Mundi is displayed. Cobbled streets and timber framed buildings house antique shops, boutiques and cafes. The nearby market town of Leominster also has many antique shops. Also of interest in the area are the Museums of Cider Making, and Monkland Cheese; the spectacular Hergest Croft Gardens and Croft Castle, of interest all year round, from spring bulbs to autumn colour with a wide collection of rare shrubs and trees. Follow the "Black and White Trail" of medieval villages, including Kington with its Black and White houses, close to superb walking with The Offa's Dyke Path, crossing the border between England and Wales; the Mortimer Trail long distance path, as well as the walk to Hergest Ridge, inspiration for Elgar.
With fantastic walks, canoeing, fishing along the River Wye, horseriding, golf at the Kington Golf Course on Bradnor Hill, the highest 18 - hole course in England, there is something to suit everyone.
The area boasts a wealth of excellent traditional village pubs and restaurants, serving local beers and ciders and local produce, including The Stag at Titley.
