Golden Valley
| "Secluded valley, abundant with lush countryside - popular as a film location" |
| The Golden Valley - with such an evocative name - is a delightful and secluded valley, which runs parallel with the Black Mountains from near Hay-on-Wye to Skenfrith and the Abergavenny area. Still, sparsely populated rural Herefordshire and Welsh Border Country.
The Southern end of the valley has the gem of Abbey Dore a Cistercian 12th Century which also has a beautiful market garden specialising in herbs. Eywas Harold is well worth visiting situated at the junction of the Rivers Dore and Monnow. Bruce Chatwin's book "On The Black Hill" and the film "Shadowlands" with Anthony Hopkins were set and shot in the Golden Valley. |
