National Trust "Man at The Top Scheme"
Donate £1 towards restoring the footpaths on the Beacons
It is impossible to imagine Brecon without the Beacons. The characteristic skyline of these mountains have become an icon of South Wales and every year tens of thousands of walkers make their way to the summits. ![]()
The combined pressure of 100" of rain every year and walkers boots has meant that we are now loving the Beacons to death. Jagged erosion scars up to 2 metres deep and 20 metres wide (the A470, the main north / south trunk road for Wales is approximately one third of that in width) have crept across the mountainsides. ![]()
But we at Brecon Beacons Holiday Cottages are helping to fight back! In 1999 the National Trust spent over £40,000 repairing damage to footpaths on the 14,000 acres it cares for in the National Park. Spearheading the work is Our Man at the Top Rob Reith. ![]()
We would like your to help to support Our Man at the Top. If you walk the Beacons during your stay, you may meet Rob and his team working on the paths. He is up there in all weather the year round employing the arcane arts of upland path construction. Even if you don't meet Rob, you will almost certainly walk on some of his work. ![]()
With the National Trust we are asking for a donation of £1.00. This money will go directly to a fund set up specifically to ensure that we can continue this important work. If you would rather not contribute, please switch the checkbox option to 'off' on the order form.
