Useful information
An ideal retreat
This is an ideal location to be able to just retreat from the world and spend a quiet relaxing holiday, with good pubs and restaurants not far away. From the cottage it is easy to explore the Brecon Beacons, Black Mountains, Wye Valley and the Border country. The Elan Valley, just outside Rhayader, with the spectacular reservoirs and dams. In the valley below lies the tiny ancient Church of St. David's Llanynis, where legend has it Prince Llywellyn ap Gruffydd, the last Welsh Prince of Wales, prayed the night before he was slain by the English in a skirmish in December 1282. A monument to mark the place where he fell stands in the village of Cilmery, just across the river. Some say his soldiers were buried in the churchyard as ancient armour has been dug up in the past.
Garth Road is the nearest railway station. Builth Wells 3 miles, Brecon 20 miles, Cardiff 70 miles. Hay-on-Wye 15 miles.
