The cottage is an attractively restored stable block in the grounds of the owner's house which dates back to the 18th century. The river runs behind the cottage, it is fenced off but visitors should be aware if you have adventurous children, in the winter the river is sometimes very picturesque but quite a torrent. The nearest village to Clydach is Gilwern [1 mile] which has shops and pubs and lies on the Monmouth-Brecon canal. Whilst set within the Brecon Beacons National Park just 4 miles from the market town of Abergavenny and 4 miles from Crickhowell it is also historically linked to the industrial heritage of the area 'Cordell's Country'- being the birthplace of Thomas Phillips mayor of Newport during the Chartist uprising. It lies adjacent to the ruins of the Clydach Ironworks now an ancient monument alongside the picturesque Clydach river which runs through the gorge. It is ideally situated for walking, trekking. caving. fishing cycling etc. and has convenient access to the A465 road.
