Gromain Lodge is a beautiful, traditional fishing lodge in the Wye Valley, which was part of the Chichester Estate (now Llangoed Hall Hotel which is just a couple of miles away and offers delicious fine dining). The Lodge is ideal for groups and families as it is spacious, well equipped and comfortable. The accomodation is all on one level and would be suitable for people with limited mobility. There arewonderful wooded gardens to explore which are bordered by fields and behind the house is a rocky hillside with a path to follow which brings you along the valley and joins the Wye Valley footpath.
In spring the gardens are bursting with daffodils, snowdrops and bluebells and are excellent for birdwatching at any time of year. There is fantastic trout and salmon fishing virtually on the doorstep and fishing tuition can be arranged. (Please note: the footpath leading down to the river and the main road is steep.) You can walk or cycle straight from the door and within a short drive you can hire a canoe and paddle into the unique book town of Hay on Wye.
Cottage Accommodation
The cottage is spacious and you'll come in through the porch, which is perfect for muddy boots. It's all on one level with the sitting room opening out onto a lovely, traditional, wooden verandah with views over the gardens and the Wye Valley beyond. The kitchen is recently renovated and is beautifully equipped with an electric "touch" halogen hob and oven, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge and a freezer. It still has the original fishing rods above the windows and there is a long dining table with plenty of space for 10.
The Cottage sleeps 10 in 5 pretty bedrooms with two bathrooms:
Bedroom 1 : A king-size bed with an en suite double size shower, handbasin and toilet.
Bedroom 2: A room with a king-size bed and a handbasin.
Bedroom 3: A room with twin beds.
Bedroom 4: A room with twin beds and a handbasin.
Family bathroom: with bath, a shower over, handbasin and toilet.
Bedroom 5: At the other end of the lodge with a king-size bed and lovely views across the garden and up the valley.
What to do while you're here:
There's loads to do for families and groups. Aside from the fantastic walking from the door, and fishing which is pretty much on the door step, it's just a short drive to some great local attractions. The Royal Welsh Showground is just a 15 minute drive and hosts the biggest agricultural show in Britain as well as frequent cob sales, the Small Holder and Garden Festival Show, the Winter Fair and numerous other events. Gromain Lodge is also just 5 minutes from Erwood Station Craft Centre which has a gallery, exhibitions, events and a cafe and access to a beautiful riverside walk along the Wye. In the evening, you could visit the local pub in Erwood, the Wheelwright Arms, dine at Llangoed Hall, or see a show at the Wyeside Theatre in Builth Wells.
