Just 5 miles from Hay-on-Wye. Cwm Cottage can accommodate up to 5 people in 3 pretty bedrooms and with no phone or TV reception it offers a truly relaxing break. This charming self catering cottage with a stream that flows over an ancient ford past the house, situated down a secluded green lane. Enjoy excellent walking, horse riding in the area before settling down in front of one of the two woodburning stoves with a good book.
Self catering accommodation
The entrance porch acts as the log store and provides a useful place to leave muddy boots and wet coats. The ground floor of this cottage has a beautiful kitchen/diner with pale blue washed kitchen units, an electric cooker, hob, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge and freezer. The dining area has a pine table and chairs and a built-in dresser housing a collection of some lovely decorative china. The floor is traditional welsh flagstone. The sitting room is warm and comfortable with a wood burning stove, sofas and chairs. The bathroom is also downstairs and has a bath, handbasin and there is a separate toilet.

All the beds have new mattresses, with an old iron bedstead in the single and one of the doubles featuring an old brass bed. The rooms are all full of character with antique bed covers, lovely white linen and French lace pillow-cases.

Stunning views from every window
Deep in the Golden Valley, Cwm Cottage looks out onto rolling hills studded with horses and sheep, with the Black Mountainsbeyond (made famous by Bruce Chatwin's "On the Black Hill"). An easy 3 mile walk will take you to Arthur's Stone, located just outside Dorstone. A chamber tomb from the Neolithic Period, it dates from some time between 3700 and 2700 BC.
Cottage with stables for horses
If you own a horse then this is definitely the cottage for you. Grazing and stabling can be arranged with the owner and the area has a great many bridleways criss-crossing the local countryside. For those looking for a truly unique way to enjoy the Marches, the Golden Valley Llama Centre is based 13 miles away and offers half-day treks.
Lovingly decorated and furnished
Kick off your wellies and come in to the kitchen/diner. With its pretty collection of decorative china, painted beamed ceiling and the pale blue washed kitchen units, the room has a cheerful, rural feel and the woodburning stove will keep everyone warm.After a long day exploring the Golden Valley, climb the painted staircase to the bedrooms and enjoy a blissful night's sleep in one of the old beds which all feature beautiful white linen, French lace pillow cases and antique bedcovers.
A quiet retreat
Many of us can only truly relax when the usual pressures of our day-to-day lives are lifted. With no phone, internet or even television, Cwm Cottage provides the perfect place to unwind. On a wet day curl up and read a book in front of the woodburning stove or gather round and play some of the board games provided. If the weather is fine and you are feeling brave dip your toes in the stream outside. With only one other cottage further up the green lane you can enjoy peace without being completely isolated. Walk into the nearby village of Dorstone for lunch at the Pandy Inn and then home for a game of scrabble and a glass of wine.
