Clay Cottage - Hay-on-Wye

Book early to find a few spare days to enjoy Clay Cottage, this is a really charming and peaceful cottage, full of character and ideal for visitors to Hay on Wye. Clay Cottage is the perfect self-catering cottage near Hay-on-Wye for visitors who appreciate a traditional stone cottage in keeping with its 200 year history - complete with fairly steep creaky stairs and a simple kitchen. The owners suggest not suitable for toddlers or elderly. Situation in an idyllic rural location with lovely views and a secluded garden, this is the perfect cottage for a quiet retreat, nopassing traffice, very private yet within easy walking distance of Hay-on-Wye (three quarters of a mile). Hay Bluff is just a few minutes drive up the valley where the wild ponies and sheep graze, take a picnic and watch the hang gliders overhead. Follow on down the valley, it is a fairly narrow single track road through the Gospel Pass and on to Capel-y-ffin and along the glorious Llanthony Valley. Hay-on-Wye has excellent boutiques, gastro-pubs and bistro's and of course the 30 antiquarian and secondhand book shops Hay is renown for.

Cottage accommodation

Sleeps 6, 3 bedrooms, Best suit upto 4 adults and 2 children. Also ideal for a romantic break for 2. Simple bright kitchen with white granite worktops, ceramic hob. integrated oven, fridge/freezer (half and half), washing machine,dishwasher and table. Traditional small dining room with a lovely flag stone floor, woodburning stove, table, chairs and stools. Downstairs bathroom has bath with shower over, handbasin and toilet. (Another toilet and handbasin upstairs). Sitting room with two sofas, armchair, woodburning stove, flatscreen TV and DVD, i-pod dock (with radio) and French doors which open out onto the wild bank leading down to a stream with daffodils and bluebells in season.

Bedroom 3:  twin bedroom - the small bedrooms have lovely views of the surrounding countryside. Each bed has a padded mattress topper for greater comfort.

  • White cotton bedlinen and towels provided.
  • Full oil central heating, electricity and some logs provided.   
  • Two dogs allowed bu downstairs only.
  • Off road parking behind the cottage for one car. 
  • Mobile reception ok.
  • The small wild garden has a bench (with other garden furniture available), and is delightful for watching the wonderful variety of birds that use the garden, from woodpeckers and bullfinches to flocks of long-tailed tits and buzzards high overhead. 
  • Also a wildlife pond - but please be careful with small children.
  • Rates for the period over Hay Festival to be discussed.
  • Supermarkets that deliver here are Tesco, Asda and Waitrose and you can also pre-order a hamper of award-winning treats and picnic snacks from local Brecon Beacons producers. Please see our web site for more details.
