Byres (BYRES) | Brecon

Sleeps 4/5. Byres - A pretty barn in a peaceful setting in the Brecon Beacons

Byres

Byres is a charming, renovated barn ideal for a break for two, or a family holiday for those with slightly older children. There are walks from the door over the surrounding hills and the Epynt and a wood-burning stove to greet you on your return. A delightful little base for an outdoors break.

    A quirky barn

Byres is a pretty barn of stone and slate. Downstairs has a light and airy open plan kitchen, living and dining room and a double bedroom and bathroom. Steep ladder stairs led up to an open plan loft which houses 3 single beds, arranged as a twin room at one end and a single at the other, each with a curtain to section off the area. The whole property enjoys a wealth of exposed beams and stone work. Byres boasts fantastic views of the surrounding hills, and an enclosed garden.

    A child's paradise

Situated on the owner's smallholding, Byres offers plenty of outdoor space. Older children will love the meadows below the barn. Bring the wellies and plenty of outdoor clothes because the meadows lead down to a lovely stream and woodlands. There is plenty to keep the kids amused here but Byres is also encompassed by great walks over the Epynt and surrounding hills.

Your horse or pony is welcome too

Fields surround Byres and stabling is available. The owners of the cottage are more than happy for visitors to bring their horse or pony with them - please call to discuss this. There is superb riding straight from the door - what a wonderful way to explore Epynt Mountain whilst saving on those horse-sitting/livery fees!

Explore Brecon - the heart of the Beacons

The centre of Brecon with it's mixture of well-known shops and small boutiques is just 5 miles from Byres. There are plenty of cafes, restaurants and pubs to discover, and a small cinema. Take a stroll up to the canal wharf and visit the acclaimed Theatr Brycheiniog providing a theatre auditorium which plays hosts to many well-known acts, an art gallery and renowned restaurant with terrace. Sit beside the wharf and you'll find it's the perfect spot to watch the comings and goings on the canal. Watch boats bob by or enjoy an ice-cream from the theatre cafe and feed the ducks and swans. Make sure that you take a boat ride to see the canal from a completely different perspective - the tow-paths provide miles of easy cycling too. Alternatively, head through the cathedral grounds to the Priory Groves, some very pretty woodland bordering the River Honddu.
